MRFF VEHEMENTLY CONDEMNS

THE SUPREME COURT’S DECISION TO

ALLOW TRUMP’S BAN ON TRANSGENDER

MILITARY MEMBERS TO BE ENFORCED

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court, with its majority of conservative Christian nationalists who put their religious opinions above the Constitution that they are sworn to uphold, granted the Trump administration’s request to allow its ban on transgender

troops to be enforced while litigation is pending.

With nearly 70 transgender clients, along with their families,

MRFF will continue to fight back on their behalf.

“The surpassingly disgraceful and shameful decision by the US Supreme Court today to uphold the twisted prejudice and tortured bigotry, which is part and parcel of the ‘tRump administration,’ by allowing tRump's reprehensible ban on transgender service members to be enforced, will go down in history as one of the most horrendous actions ever taken by this judicial body. The Military Religious Freedom Foundation has just under 70 transgender clients and their families who are being viciously attacked by this hideous opinion of abject, unjustified hatred. The MRFF will continue to fight every way it can to overturn this horrible injustice. This matter is not over, and the fight to preserve the rights of transgender military members has just begun.”

Subject: Supreme Court's decision to remove transgender military ban injunction

Dear MRFF,

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) has a long history of defending the civil rights of all those serving in the U.S. military. It has been a steadfast guardian of proper and equal application of the U.S. constitution within the military ranks.

Therefore, as a retired U.S. military officer, who dedicated my life to protecting our country, and who happens to be transgender, I am writing to the MRFF to express my disgust at the Supreme Court’s decision to remove the injunction on the ban on transgender people in the military.

No final decision has been made on this issue. Therefore, the removal of the injunction while it moves through courts will cause irreparable harm to dedicated public servants who have volunteered to accept the possibly of laying down their lives to protect their fellow citizens.

There is no justification for inflicting these wounds, except pure animus. There has been no evidence provided that proves these soldiers, airman, sailors and guardians have done anything to disrupt good order and discipline. In fact, the evidence indicates the complete opposite is true.

These unsubstantiated arguments of impacts to military readiness and lethality are reminiscent of the same arguments for racial segregation in the military, no gays in the military, and severely limiting women in the military which are now recognized as discriminatory. Therefore, the justification has shifted to transgender being an unacceptable medical condition. However, all trans military warriors are meeting or exceeding all physical, mental and performance standards. My poor eyesight had a greater chance of i mpacting my combat readiness than my gender dysphoria. Military members who tear their ACL are provided with surgery and rehab, then placed back on duty status.

At its heart, this ban, and the removal of the injunction, is a demonstration of pure hostility towards a select minority of U.S. citizens. It is discrimination in its purest form. Don’t we owe transgender people in the military the same respect and honor we demand of them? All of us are worthy of equal protection under the law. Bigotry should not be a cornerstone of our culture.

This fight is not over. I am reassured by the fact the Military Religious Freedom Foundation will continue to be at the “pointy end of the stick” in the defense of the civil rights of all military members, especially transgender military members.

I’ve known Mikey for over 50 years. We’ve maintained intermittent contact throughout our individual careers in the Air Force and in civilian life. Each time we meet, it’s an intriguing mix of friendship, exciting news, a sense of astonished wonder how we’ve survived calamity, and always: hopefulness for the future.

The work of MRFF has been the most important effort by any organization that I’ve seen for the betterment of our country, our national community, and our way of life.

Mikey has advocated for those who are unable to advocate for themselves, through fear of reprisal or physical harm. He’s doing the work that is often vilified and subject to awful retribution. But it’s noble and virtuous work. Mikey and MRFF answer the pleas of those who suffer humiliation and indignity at the hands of individuals who profess a religious calling, yet persecute those who don’t abide by their version of righteousness. Mikey and MRFF answer when no one else does. It’s work that is often bleak and in the crosshairs at the same time.

No one should be subject to another’s belief system against their will. History has shown how savage retribution can by those who are challenged by individuals or groups who only want to peacefully hold on to their native beliefs and conventions. Mikey and MRFF are at the forefront to protect individual and community rights in the military against an imposing majority.

I am proud to be a donor to this amazing organization. I’m a retired military officer with over 26 years of service. I’m also an attorney and a professional in the IT industry where I’ve encountered some of the vile actions of people in positions of authority who think they are doing the work of God.

Without Mikey and MRFF, our country is fated to disintegrate into chaos, as it seems to be doing now. They hold the line. More support and donors are needed to keep this worthwhile effort going. If not for our own lives, then for the lives of our children and their children.
