MRFF FILES FEDERAL LAWSUIT

AGAINST DEPT. OF VETERANS AFFAIRS

AFTER THREE YEARS OF DELIBERATE

FOIA REQUEST OBSTRUCTION

On April 12, 2022, after receiving a steady flow of e-mails

over several years from veterans reporting that the Patriot Stores

in VA medical facilities were selling only Christian books,

MRFF submitted a FOIA request to the VA.

MRFF’s request sought the documents that would reveal how the ironically named “Choice Books” — which offers no choice for veterans and their visitors except Christian books — obtained

an exclusive contract with the VA to be the sole book

supplier for all VA medical facility Patriot Stores.

From the many, many photos sent to MRFF by veterans across the country, it is abundantly clear that the large displays of Choice Books Christian books that dominate the Patriot Stores, some filling whole walls, provide the only “choice” of reading material,

with no other non-Christian books available.

After three years of being stonewalled by the VA to prevent us from getting these documents, MRFF has said enough is enough, filing a federal lawsuit last Friday against the VA to force it

to obey the law and release the requested documents to us.

Opening his latest e-mail blast with a completely inappropriate “Happy Memorial Day!” greeting to whoever the hell actually reads his tripe, disgraced former Navy chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt applauds Christian nationalist Secretary of Defense Petey Hegseth for holding his “Secretary of Defense Christian Prayer & Worship Service,” which was held in the Pentagon auditorium during the duty day, drawing criticism from many sources.

Klingenschmitt’s e-mail quotes Mikey Weinstein, followed by this bracketed comment ridiculously accusing Mikey of hating Jews:

[Dr. Chaps’ comment: Mikey hates Jesus so much, he compares people who pray in Jesus' name to Hitler killing Jews. (But Mikey also hates Jews, as proven by his vocal opposition to Israel.)  Praise God Pete Hegseth has done exactly what I was kicked out for doing!  Winning. We've come full circle as a nation. …]
