Hey, folks, ok, you wanna see the hideous, unconstitutional hellscape of “Project 2025” in full-action fascistic glory, eh?
I mean of COURSE it would be UNTHINKABLE to have the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, host an internationally acclaimed subject matter expert in how the world’s militaries react to authoritarian leadership. How could THAT topic POSSIBLY be relevant at this very time, less than 2 weeks before our American elections?!
Ohhhh, the HUMANITY??!!
Some quick specifics: Here ya go!
Please just read this short, shocking article from just a few days ago in The Baltimore Banner news outlet: “If Trump wins, the right-wing thought police will come for the Naval Academy.”
No need for a ton of words here as the brief, substantive article lays out quite well the pathetic OUTRAGEOUSNESS of my dad’s alma mater, The U.S. Naval Academy, cratering to the faux temper tantrum of the main authors and driving force behind the MAGA Christian Nationalist agenda of Project 2025; the vile, evil Heritage Foundation.
For more details on this outrageous act of what the MAGAs would decry as “cancel culture” if the tables were turned, see yesterday’s Raw Story article “‘Shameful’: Naval Academy cancels authoritarianism lecture after ‘MAGA pressure.’”
Now, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation is no stranger to the fine art of getting disgusting speakers removed from their previously invited speech opportunities at our nation’s military academies, throughout the DoD and the Pentagon et al as you can see here, here, here, and here.
But every time MRFF has stopped such planned speeches in their tracks, it has been due to the speaker’s well-established fundamentalist Christian bigotry, hatred, and prejudice, which has incontrovertibly further manifested itself in blatant homophobia, misogyny, antisemitism, transphobia, Islamophobia … well, you get the idea, right?!
In other words, inviting speakers to our nation’s prestigious military academies, war colleges, and other DoD installations and bases is just PERFECT if the invitee espouses fundamentalist Christian exceptionalism, exclusivity, triumphalism, superiority, and domination.
But when the Naval Academy invited highly-respected historian Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a New York University history professor and expert on authoritarian regimes, to speak at the Academy, the Project 2025 cabal at the Heritage Foundation, who actually do want an authoritarian regime here in the United States — as long as it’s their authoritarian regime — threw a very effective hissy fit, even though Ben-Ghiat made it clear that her “lecture had nothing to do with contemporary America” and that she “was not going to mention Mr. Trump at all in this strictly nonpartisan event.” Are they afraid that the Academy’s midshipmen, faculty, and staff, being an intelligent audience, might, on their own, see the parallels between the historical authoritarian regimes that Professor Ben-Ghiat intended to talk about and the imminently dire authoritarian threat of a second Donald Trump administration?
How DARE any DoD installation, like Annapolis here, invite somebody who wants to teach the INVALUABLE lessons of history regarding how our world’s armed forces have fared when controlled by a ruthless, fascist, autocratic regime?
Hello!? Ring any bells, my friends?!
Once again, it’s Project 2025 stupid!!
