Early voting starts October 16

Here's the information you need to vote in the municipal elections.

To find out which candidates are conservatives/Republicans, the Moore County GOP has developed this list - take it with you, send it to your friends and family, and tell everyone you know. Encourage THEM to get out and vote, too!

Poll observers and greeters needed for municipal election

The State Board of Elections made a change to its rules on September 30. It now allows parties to appoint poll observers in a nonpartisan election, if there is a candidate on the ballot registered as affiliated with that party. For the Moore GOP we have 19 precincts across 10 municipalities for which we can appoint poll observers. SO WE ARE LOOKING FOR PEOPLE TO FILL THESE SLOTS!

MRW member Agnes Puzack has stepped forward to coordinate. If you would be willing to work as a poll observer for at least one shift during early voting and one shift on Election Day, please contact Agnes asap.

She will provide poll observer guidelines, Zoom training info and other useful resources. She'll also schedule you on the dates you're available.

Greeters also needed

This is a very important job: Encouraging voters to vote Republican as they head into the polls. If you can help out at the GOP tents during Early Voting and on Election Day, please sign up NOW at the Moore County GOP website. If just 26 people select ONE 4-hour shift during Early Voting, we'll be fully staffed!

October luncheon highlights: Candidates for MRW Exec Board and municipal elections

At the October 8 luncheon, our nominating committee members announced their recommended slate of officers for MRW's Executive Board, 2026-2027. They are:

  • President - Pilar Page
  • 1st VP (Program Chair) - Elaine Bologna
  • 2nd VP (Membership Chair) - Pauline Bruno
  • Treasurer - Kaitlin Eilers
  • Secretary - Lou Ellen Runyan

At the meeting, a motion was made to aaccept the slate "by acclamation," and the vote was held. However, our bylaws require that we hold the election at our November meeting, so the motion was out of order, and the election will be held in November. The elected officers will be installed at the December meeting.

Anyone else interested in any of these positions may be nominated from the floor at the November luncheon.

After the Nominating Committee presented its slate of officers, we heard from candidates for the municipal elections. Their main message: PLEASE DON"T NEGLECT TO VOTE! In an off-year election like this, not that many people vote, so every ballot cast is extremely important!

Brett Tanner, candidate for Carthage Commissioner

John McDonald, candidate for Carthage Commissioner

Lydia Bosch, candidate for Pinehurst Town Council

Lucy Kaminsky, candidate for Whispering Pines Town Council

Pam Harris, candidate for Whispering Pines Town Council

Brandon Goodman, candidate for Southern Pines Town Council

Tim Helms, candidate for Aberdeen Town Council

In addition, MRW celebrated the fact that Sandi Carl, MRW member who leads our military outreach and heads our America250 initiative, received the "American Patriot" award from the NC Federation of Republican Women. She was the top honoree in all of North Carolina! (L to R: Charli Thyne, Sandi Carl, Kay Wildt).

Finally, the winner of the free 2026 membership was Jim Legg.

SPECIAL NOTICE:

Our next MRW luncheon will be on Wednesday, November 19, 2025. At that luncheon, we will officially vote for our 2026-2027 Executive Board. Please plan to attend!

RIP: Bill Demastus

Yesterday we were all shocked and dismayed to hear the news that Bill Demastus had passed away. He went to meet his Lord on October 8 after peacefully falling asleep.

Bill was the former Vice Chair of the Moore County GOP, a former president of the Moore County Republican Men's Club, and a constant, friendly and helpful presence at GOP events. More than that, Bill was much beloved by Moore Republican Women, where he was an Associate member and served as an unofficial liaison to the GOP and the Men's Club and attended all our board meetings and events. The wise counsel, practical assistance, and smiling face of this great patriot will be sorely missed and never forgotten.

Our prayers are with his wonderful wife, Alice, the entire family, and everyone who loved him.

Once we learn of funeral arrangements, we will pass them on to you.
