January 2026

Letter from the President by Pilar Page

Happy New Year to my fellow patriots!

On behalf of MRW's new Executive Board, I thank you for choosing us to lead this wonderful club for the next two years. Winning the mid-terms is a tough challenge that will require new thinking and fresh initiatives from all Republican organizations throughout the nation - and we promise MRW will be doing our part.

Our mission in 2026 is two-fold:

  • To mobilize Republicans to get out and vote in the mid-term elections
  • To grow our Club and enhance satisfaction with membership

We will be adding to your knowledge and ability to promote and defend our principles and actions (see the next article); reaching out to engage more voters; and involving YOU in more volunteer opportunities. And of course, we'll have inspirational speakers at our luncheons, fun campaign events, and some great new Caring for America and military projects that will enhance Moore Republican Women's visibility throughout Moore County.

We welcome your input, ideas and energy to achieve our mission. Embrace the opportunity to strengthen relationships through shared goals, meaningful activities and a strong political bonds. LET'S DO THIS!

God bless you and God bless America!

Pilar

Liberals don't really want to engage in rational argument - they'd rather throw nasty epithets and call us "racists." There's not much use in trying to persuade them of our arguments - they are determined not to hear.

But there are some disillusioned Democrats and Independents or Unaffiliates who might be open to listening to the truth.

Have the facts at your fingertips when an opportunity arises to argue positively and with pride for our cause. Here's the first in a series of "educational" articles to share with others:

Know Republican Party history, Part 1:

Founded as anti-slavery party, fights for Americans' civil rights to this day

And don't forget about the great things MRW accomplished in the past year!

Bring in homemade goodies for LEOs

January 9 is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, and as always, MRW will be taking baskets of goodies to law enforcement offices throughout Moore County to say "Thank you."

At our December brunch, we collected snacks to include in the baskets - but those LEOs sure love homebaked goodies, too! If you'd like to contribute cookies or brownies, please bring them to the GOP HQ (311 Central Avenue, Pinehurst):

Wednesday, January 7

12:30 p.m.

GOP HQ

The MRW Board will be filling the baskets at that time. If you can help deliver the baskets, especially to outlying areas, please contact LouEllen Runyan asap.

Ways & Means results from December brunch

In addition to selling tickets for the Basket of Cheer at the December brunch, we also offered them for sale at the Men's Club luncheon. The fellas were very generous! The basket earned $390 and the winner was Mark Gilbert.

50/50 Raffle: $165. Pamela Venet won $82.50. (See next article for sad news)

Nut sales: $225.

Thank you to these lovely ladies for their hard work selling raffle tickets and nuts: Deborah Piazza, Jeanne Harrington, Laura Nielsen and Betsy Miller

And thanks to everyone who helped support MRW with your purchases!

Rest in Peace: Pam Venet

Long-time MRW member Pam Venet unexpectedly passed away December 26. She suffered a serious head injury after a tragic fall while visiting her family for Christmas.

Her obituary and information about a memorial service are not available at this time. We will miss her cheerful, loving presence at MRW, where she was actively involved for years. She lived a life marked by faith, devotion to family, and service to others.

Our hearts and prayers go out to Pam's family.

MRW's Conservative Cook Book Club - something new and different

TPUSA's presence in Moore County is growing, a testament to the power of Charlie Kirk's movement. You can help this wonderful organization grow by attending its meetings or by telling others that Turning Point Faith meets the first Sunday of every month:

Highlights of our December brunch

We welcomed a capacity crowd at our December brunch. We installed our new leaders, welcomed candidates for office as our speakers, and the festivities concluded with a Christmas celebration that featured a reading of "One Solitary Life" by Mary Flynn and Christmas carols led by the talented Laura Morgan.

The new Executive Board was sworn in by Judge Warren McSweeney. (L to R: Charli Thyne, Judge McSweeney, Pilar Page, Pauline Bruno, Elaine Bologna and Kaitlin Eilers (not pictured: LouEllen Runyan).

Don Brown, candidate for U.S. Senate

Don Brown was our keynote speaker. He outlined some of the many serious challenges facing our world, the lack of action on the part of Congress to address these issues, and his intention to light a fire under our Senators to support President Trump's agenda and reduce our country's burgeoning deficit.

Sharlene Anderson, District Court Judge, Seat 2.

Marissa Curry, DIstrict Court Judge, Seat 2.

Kim Davis, District Court Judge, Seat 1.

Lindsey Smith, District Court Judge, Seat 1.

Beth Tanner, District Court Judge, Seat 2 (incumbent)

In addition to the speakers, MRW member Emily Stack received a certificate of appreciation from the NCFRW for her inspirational work leading the Young Republicans of North Carolina.

We drew the name of the winner of a free lunch in 2026: Kathleen Richardson. The drawing included the names of everyone who has renewed their memberships. Another winner will be drawn in February from the names of all who renewed by December 31.

Help seniors in assisted living to vote!

The Moore County Board of Elections (BOE) is seeking help with the Multi-Partisan Assistance Team (MAT) in the weeks leading up to Election Day. (March 3) This service helps those in long-term care facilities who are unable to otherwise get out and vote. MAT goes to assisted living and skilled nursing facilities and helps residents with the entire process, from registering to vote, requesting an absentee ballot, and voting/returning absentee ballots.

Non-partisan teams of volunteers include a Republican, a Democrat and an Unaffiliated. Let's make sure there are enough Republicans who participate!

You'll get trained on how to participate. MAT visits will occur January 5 through February 13, 2026.

Scenes from our holiday activities

Wreaths Across America honored veterans buried at Seven Lakes Cemetery. MRW members purchased more than 70 wreaths to lay on the gravestones, and our volunteers were there as always to remember those who sacrificed for our freedom.

We participated in numerous parades throughout Moore County. Our gingerbread float won first place in Vass! Miriam Chu designed this and other holiday floats for Southern Pines, Aberdeen and Robbins parades.

GOP Party welcomed everyone to the HQ for fun and food. We also brought in gifts for Toys for Tots to make the holidays brighter for needy children.
