22 February 2021 | Chartiers Valley Middle School
Hello Colt Families,

Winter has definitely been in full swing for the start of 2021! The CVMS Student Council is going to warm up the school by hosting a Hot Chocolate Bar on March 2 & 3. For a $1 donation, students can enjoy a delicious cup of hot chocolate during their lunch period while benefiting a local animal shelter in need.

As part of the Give Thx gratitude program, students in the 7th grade Lime House created drawings and messages for Veterans. Students thanked our veterans for keeping us safe, for their bravery, and for the sacrifices they have made. Valentine's wishes were added to make the cards festive. Each card included original, colorful artwork and heartfelt poetry or notes. Members of VFW #764 will distribute the Valentines to local veterans and their families. Our students have been recognized by the VFW National President for a Youth Activity Award. “The veterans who receive these cards treasure them for years. Many families keep them because of how much they meant to their loved one.” This is the fourth
year Middle School students have participated in this project. We are enormously proud of our 7th-grade students for the effort and sincerity that they poured into their work on this project.

Congratulations to 8th graders Violet Shields, Abby Daffner, Wesley Madge, and Ava Super for being recognized for their writing in the Pittsburgh Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Violet earned the Silver Key recognition for her flash fiction piece titled “Jellyfish.” Abby, Wesley, and Ava earned Honorable Mentions for their memoirs. Their certificates and writing can be viewed by clicking here. Additionally, congratulations to 8th graders Grace Janco and Tyler Maddix for being awarded Honorable Mentions in the Western Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of English (WPCTE) Flash Fiction Writing Contest. Grace and Tyler were recognized during a virtual awards ceremony, and their certificates and writing can be viewed by clicking here. Congratulations to the students and to their English teachers Ms. Bouch and Mrs. Jensema!

Spring sports sign-ups will be coming up very soon & students will be receiving emails with sign-up links. Remind your student to be on the lookout if he/she has an interest in becoming involved.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy week ahead!
Make it a great day,

Dr. Michele Welter, Principal
Mr. Dan Knause, Assistant Principal
