Debate on a few bills continued this week on both the House and the Senate floors. Speaker Philip Gunn stated that this upcoming Saturday and Sunday is conference weekend and that the House’s aim is to finish up its business during this time. Though the SINE DIE day is not until April 4th, the 2021 Legislative Session is expected to end by early next week. Below is a list of bills that have been signed by the Governor:
  • HB 633 – This bill requires the implementation of a K-12 computer science curriculum and provides for teacher development and training.

  • SB 2149 – This bill requires the Mississippi Department of Education to hold school districts harmless when calculating average daily attendance for the 2020-2021 scholastic year.

  • HB 135 – Reenacts the Mississippi Critical Teacher Shortage Act of 1998 by extending the repealer on the law to 2024.

The current deadlines for legislation are:

  • Monday, March 29, 2021 — Deadline for final adoption of conference reports on appropriations and revenue bills and for conference reports on general bills and constitutional amendments to be filed.

  • Tuesday, March 30, 2021 — Deadline to dispose of motions to reconsider conference reports on appropriations and revenue bills.

  • Wednesday, March 31, 2021 — Deadline for first consideration of conference reports on general bills and constitutional amendments.

  • Thursday, April 1, 2021 — Deadline for filing conference reports on general bills and constitutional amendments that had been recommitted for further conference.

  • Saturday, April 4, 2021 — SINE DIE
