2022 FALL NEWSLETTER
an update from the Mamaroneck Schools Foundation
Dear Friends:

I first became involved in MSF when my daughters attended Murray Avenue School. I assisted several 5th grade teachers in writing grants requesting SMART Boards for their classrooms. They received the grant, and I was grateful to MSF for underwriting (the then) state-of-the-art technology that significantly enhance the classroom experience.

This type of grant is typical for MSF – teachers and administrators come to us to fund new ideas and our grants allow for proof of concept – letting a teacher/school/district try something out. Providing funding for such experimentation encourages our district’s teachers and administrators to excel and take bold steps in support of creating a more dynamic education for our children. Activating innovation in our educators leads to students being better equipped 21st-century learners. The SMART Boards that were funded years ago came at the beginning of what became a rapid expansion of tech-based learning initiatives in our schools. Today, MSF has partnered with the District to provide funding for key equipment that will be central to the new Elementary STEM Learning Hubs and the STEAM CoLAB at MHS, which will make their debuts later this fall. We are excited to share a stand alone update with you on these amazing spaces later this month!

MSF extends a warm welcome to all of the new families to the school district. Please visit our website to learn more about our organization, and we hope that you will join us at our Autumn Mixer later this month so that we have a chance to introduce ourselves in person. We also look forward to seeing our supporters there your donations, attendance at events and volunteering make it possible for MSF to continue to support innovation and the excellence in education in the Mamaroneck School District. Thank you for your generosity through the years!

Warmly,
Julie Konvisser

MSF JR. TRIATHLON - A SUCCESS!
Under blue skies and ideal course conditions, the Mamaroneck School Foundation’s 16th Annual Junior Triathlon was held on Saturday, September 17. Over 300 racers aged 7-13 years enthusiastically swam, biked, and ran to the finish line as community members cheered them on. The celebration continued as the athletes were awarded medals and treats, while a lively DJ provided a festive backdrop for all.

An event of this magnitude requires the coordinated efforts of so many. Triathlon organizers Lindsey Anderson and Becky Gray worked closely with MSF leadership and Elite Feats – a professional race coordinator – to plan the event. Hommocks School custodial staff went over and above to ensure that all was ready for the day’s activities. Over 100 community volunteers, which included families, students, and teachers, together with the professional support provided by Town of Mamaroneck and Village of Larchmont agencies ensured that the event ran smoothly and safely.

Robust support also came from local businesses and organizations in the form of generous sponsorships. MSF particularly recognizes Badger Sports Camp, which has faithfully taken on the role of Lead Sponsor for the triathlon for several years. Visit our triathlon page for a full list of our community sponsors!

Thank you. Thank YOU. THANK YOU.
KINDERGARTEN BOOKS ARE HERE
MSF welcomes our youngest learners!
All kindergartners in the school district received a copy of The Caring Me I Want To Be by Mary DiPalerma, courtesy of MSF.

In the story, readers are reminded that being kind not only spreads good – it also feels great. Yet sometimes we don't know how to be kind in the moment. In this sweet, rhyming story, a child shares how she tries to practice kindness every day – a timeless life lesson.

Welcome to Mamaroneck Schools - we are so happy you are here!
