MnFIRE Update

To All Minnesota Firefighters and those who support Minnesota Firefighters:

Last legislative session HF1782 and SF2264 were introduced by Representative Cheryl Youakim and Senator Steve Cwodzinski, respectively. These bills, known as the “Hometown Heroes Assistance Program” seek to accomplish 5 key outcomes.

Unfortunately, these bills did not pass last session. There is good news however, and that is that this initiative is alive and well for the 2020 session and with your help we can make passage a reality.

Certification Board has Successful Completion of Pro Board Site Visit and Receives High Praise

In the span of the last 16 months, the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board (MFSCB) has successfully completed their IFSAC, and now Pro Board reaccreditation site visit reviews. These two entities represent the true value of your certificate and we are pleased to announce the successful completion of both. We have a small amount of technical updates to make and submit (most already completed and submitted) and the MFSCB will be awarded our Pro Board reaccreditation certificate at their annual conference in January.

Close Before You Doze Video Contest

Last year, UL Firefighter Safety Research Institute (FSRI) produced a powerful viral video to demonstrate the dramatic difference a closed door can make during a home fire.

Now, UL FSRI is launching its national Close Before You Doze Video Contest and is asking for the public to help share this message by creating videos that educate viewers on the importance of closing bedroom doors before they go to sleep.

The contest, open now through August 31, asks people to come up with their own creative interpretations of this life-saving message to raise awareness and promote fire safety. UL FSRI has committed to donate up to $25,000 to the winners’ local fire department (or favorite fire department) to put toward fire safety education in the region.
