AGC/VT Weekly Contractor Update

May 11, 2026

Think you're prepared for an MSHA visit? Think again - MSHA is changing the way they're doing inspections in Vermont. Richard and Ben break down everything you need to know in this week's Toolbox Talk:

3 Things VT Contractors Need to

Know This Week

  1. MSHA inspections are happening now. Make sure your training records, workplace exams, and site-specific paperwork are up to date and accessible on site.
  2. The Legislature’s end-of-session scramble is in full swing. Contractors should keep a close eye on late changes tied to Act 250, wastewater capacity, transportation funding, and labor mandates as lawmakers push toward adjournment.
  3. 3 Weeks of Training Season Left. Take advantage of the final classes before Fall. First Aid, Flagging, MSHA refreshers, OSHA 10, and Fire Alarm courses are still available.

Week 17 on the Jobsite (AKA the Statehouse)

The end-of-session scramble has officially entered “everybody’s carrying ladders but nobody knows where they go” territory.

Week 17 at the Statehouse looked a lot like the final week before substantial completion: long punch lists, surprise change orders, and lawmakers sprinting between conference committees trying to finish major bills before adjournment.

For Vermont’s builders, developers, tradespeople, and construction employers, the biggest conversations stayed centered on housing, infrastructure funding, labor policy, and whether projects can actually move through permitting before the next ice age.
