MHSA Modernization Workgroup

Dear Members,

We are pleased to inform you that today we convened our first MHSA Modernization Workgroup meeting. The level of engagement and active participation demonstrated by our members during the workgroup was truly commendable. Your dedication to addressing the critical issues surrounding mental health and substance use is invaluable, and it highlights the importance of this work. We will hold these workgroup meetings bi-weekly to stay on top of the issue. If you would like to join the workgroup please email P. Moreno-Gonzalez pmoreno@cccbha.org.

Additionally, we would like to bring to your attention the recently released policy committee hearing schedule for SB 326 (Eggman). The bill, which is now dual referred to Assembly Health and subsequently to Assembly Housing, represents significant implications for the future of the MHSA.

The policy hearing in the Assembly Health Committee will be held on Tuesday, August 22. On the same day, there is an anticipation of an informational hearing, possibly jointly held with the Housing Committee, in the morning. After adjourning this session, the committee will reconvene at its regular meeting time, 1:30 pm, to cast votes on the bill. Subsequently, the Housing Committee will proceed with hearing the bill.

All amendment proposals and concerns should be submitted by COB Thursday, July 12th. Letters of support and opposition will continue to be accepted until August 16th.

In preparation for the upcoming hearings, CBHA will be actively seeking feedback from all our members. We deeply appreciate the time and effort you have invested in attending the MHSA Workgroup. By coming together as a unified force, we can make significant strides in promoting mental well-being and combating substance use. Your insights, experiences, and perspectives are invaluable as we shape our testimony. We encourage you to reach out with your thoughts, suggestions, and potential concerns related to SB 326 (Eggman). If you have feedback, please email pmoreno@cccbha.org.

CBHA remains committed to representing your voices in this time of transition. We appreciate your continuous involvement and look forward to our collective efforts to preserve the spirit of the MHSA and the vital services you provide to California’s most vulnerable.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need additional information.
