CMS to Provide $30B to Providers from CARES Act Fund
Yesterday, during the White House Coronavirus Task Force briefing, CMS Administrator Seema Verma announced that the Administration will provide $30 billion to physicians from the $100 billion Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act fund, based on Medicare revenues, for physicians to use as needed, beginning this week. It was mentioned that:
  • Physicians can spend the funds “any way they see fit.”
  • The funds would not have to be paid back.
  • It is an easy and simple application process, which will involve direct deposit or a “simple registration” process.
  • The funds will be based on Medicare revenue, and will not be “first come, first served.”
  • It is the agency’s priority is to get funds out quickly based on provider feedback, while recognizing that some providers – such as pediatricians, children’s hospitals, OB-GYNs and skilled nursing facilities – depend on other revenue sources, and will be addressed in a second distribution of funds from the $100 billion CARES Act provision.
