PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

In our increasingly digital world, it’s easy to forget the power of being in the same room together. But as optometrists, we know that nothing replaces the clarity and connection of face-to-face interaction.

When we gather in person - to learn, share ideas, and connect - we do more than earn CE credits. We strengthen the bonds that hold our profession together. We exchange experiences that shape how we practice, spark collaborations that advance our field, and build a community that can stand united when challenges arise. The Massachusetts Society of Optometrists exists to

protect and advance optometry in our state. That work is stronger when we are engaged, informed, and connected to one another. Every handshake, every conversation, every shared learning moment helps fortify the future of optometry in Massachusetts.

I encourage you to join us at our Fall CE & EXPO in November, which will include our Annual Awards Presentation and Reception - not just for your own growth, but for the growth of our profession. Together, we are not only keeping optometry strong today, we are shaping the future we want for tomorrow.

VSP YOUNG OD TRAVEL GRANT

Congratulations to Dr. Lauren Thamel who was awarded the VSP Young OD Travel Grant to offset expenses to attend Optometry's Meeting in Minneapolis!

Dr. Thamel is a 3rd generation optometrist who practices in central Massachusetts providing primary care optometry as well as dry eye and low vision services. She is passionate about continuing to fight for a profession that allows her to care for her community and improve people’s lives through their eyes. Dr. Thamel is currently the Central District Chair for the MSO and serves on the membership committee as well.

Nominations are now open for the MSO OD and Young OD of the Year award! Recipients will be honored at the MSO Awards Reception following the Fall CE on November 16, 2025. Nominations close on September 15!
