The "Few" are Here!

Jesus said, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few," in Matthew 9:35-38 referencing his lost sheep in need of shepherds. He acknowledged that the people were ready to receive the Gospel, but the laborers to share the Gospel were few to meet the people's hunger. When we first arrived at Mississippi State, it was obvious that the spiritual ground here had been tilled, the seeds have been planted, and the fruit is growing. However, the capacity of our staff was limited to meet the spiritual hunger of coaches and athletes. We began asking the Lord to send the staff he wanted on this campus to meet the spiritual needs presented on teams, and he has been so faithful to send people to us!

In the Fall of 2022, God sent Jeremiah Pierce and Brandi Morgan to serve the track, soccer, and softball teams. This summer, he has sent Shayla Pierce and Scott Nicholson (bios below) to serve track, women's basketball, and football. Our intern Caitlyn Guthrie will remain our intern for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year, and my wife Bethany has also come on staff to help with leadership development and donor communication. Tyson Cunningham will continue to serve men's basketball, and I will serve the baseball team.

When I arrived, the MSU staff consisted of me and Tyson. To see that God has multiplied our staff to 8 as we enter 2023-2024 is truly remarkable. We have a strong team and are looking forward to our time planning this summer for the 2023-2024 school year.

Shayla Pierce

Shayla competed for Mississippi State University Track and Field for 4 consecutive years specializing in the 200- and 400-meter dash. She graduated from Mississippi State in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences and was actively involved in on-campus ministry.

Shayla is currently a personnelist in the U.S. Air National Guard. She aspires to become an orthodontist and a commissioned officer for the Air National Guard. She is passionate about helping, serving, and uplifting her community while discovering God's creativity expressed through her life.

Scott Nicholson

Raised in a Christian home, Scott saw his need for a Savior at age 8 and felt burdened with a call to ministry in 1990 at the age of 15. In 1993, as a senior in High School, Scott pastored his first church and stayed there until he left for college at William Carey in Hattiesburg, MS. His call to ministry has taken him from Amory, MS to Muscle Shoals, AL, then back to Fulton where he has been for 16 years. He and his family are excited about this new chapter with Mississippi State Football through the ministry of FCA.

Athlete Spotlight: Emily Surcey

Emily Surcey's Ultimate Training Camp Experience

Going to Ultimate Training Camp is nothing short of a life-altering experience. As a returning camper at UTC Colorado, I thought I had a good idea of what to expect. However, with my athletic career in the balance with my decision to enter the transfer portal, I arrived at camp with more questions than answers. I did not anticipate to be physically, mentally, and spiritually pushed to my limit, even more than the previous year, but I was.
At UTC, I not only gained life-long friends but also brothers and sisters in Christ. As a college athlete seeking to surrender to God's purpose, this camp is the perfect place to do so. It instills confidence in athletes to showcase their faith in every aspect of their life. I'm grateful to Mississippi State FCA and Justin Pigott for helping me rediscover and love myself not just as an athlete, but as a person.
