Advising Team Updates

March 2023

Hello MSW Students

We come to this Advisor Update continuing to grieve with you for all that was lost on 2/13, and celebrating with you for the strength that the Spartan Community has shown in the aftermath of this tragedy. The support efforts, and connectedness have been, and continue to be, felt and appreciated. We hope that you have been able to seek comfort, and utilize resources as needed/wanted. If you are looking for additional supports, please connect with the MSW Advising Team.

If you want to review any of the previously shared monthly Advisor Updates, you can find them at: https://socialwork.msu.edu/programs/MSW/advising.html

As you move through the semester, we wanted to share some updates and reminders that we hope will be helpful!

Grief Absence Form

There is an option to request a short-term absence from coursework due to exposure to the February 13th traumatic event or to the death of a friend. Use this form: https://reg.msu.edu/StuForms/StuInfo/GriefAbsenceForm.aspx

Connect with Instructors

Please continue to connect with your Instructors regarding your needs. This is the best first step in determining plans/alternatives to support your learning and success. Also, reach out to your Advisor and the School of SW Administrators for additional supports/questions.

Credit/No Credit Option (offered to undergraduate students for SS23 semester)

Due to accreditation, licensure, or other constraints of the MSW program, graduate students do not have the option to take courses, including 400 level electives for credit/no credit. A 2.0 is required to receive credit for a graduate course. Please contact your advisor to assist with navigating any concerns regarding courses.
