We are excited to share some updates, important dates, and program details so that we are all on the same page! If you have questions,

We are excited to share that Jenn Benway is the new Statewide Blended Advisor! Please send her a warm welcome (and program questions)!

Scholarships

Applications for 2023-2024 will open on March 15, 2023.

If you have applied for the Advocacy Scholars program, we have received your application and will be reviewing soon.

Summer registration (for SW courses) will open April 15^th!

If you are interested in taking an elective class in a different department, you can enroll in that now. The “current courses” list (which will include all required courses and sections, as well as electives) will be available soon at:

*Note - the waitlists are not active/utilized. Please do not put yourself on the waitlist, as this will not assist with getting a seat in the class.

Weekly Advising Hours

To assist you throughout your educational journey in the MSW program, the Advising Team will begin offering weekly Advising drop-in sessions (Zoom) beginning Feb 1

Wednesdays 12-1pm.

You are welcome to attend any/all that you would like – even if your assigned Advisor is not hosting that week!

*Note - Raul will be present at the Henry Center dining area when the weekend program meets each month for class, in the morning and during lunch time.

Spring 2023 Graduation

For Spring or Summer 2023 graduates, please be sure to complete the following:

GradPlan – in your student record (student.msu.edu)

Apply for graduation. If your correct semester is not available, please reach out to [email protected] to get it resolved.

The Commencement Office is working on a re-design of their website, and have confirmed that information regarding upcoming graduation will be posted by February 9. Please check back after this date to make sure you register for the ceremony (if you plan to attend).

Phi Alpha Honor Society and GradSAC are collecting new hats, gloves, and warm socks to distribute to Lansing-area agencies working with homeless individuals and families

MSW Flint Programs and Events Survey

The Student Support Coordinator is looking for feedback about events and programs specifically in the Flint area. This will help him curate programmatic efforts for Spring 2023. The survey will close on January 31st and will only take a few minutes to complete. If you have any questions, please email him at [email protected].

Lending Library Now Accepting Donations!

The lending library is accepting donations!

If you are looking to donate your old books you used in your previous courses, you can drop them off at baker hall in rooms 238 or 239 during regular business hours (9am-12 pm, 12pm-5pm, M-F) .

Building this library will be used for students in future semesters who may need assistance in accessing books for their courses. For more information please contact [email protected].

The Flint Community Initiative (FCI) prepares and invests MSU’s most vital resource -- the time, gifts and talents of students passionate to make a difference – to engage in meaningful work in nonprofit community organizations in Flint while providing our students with a unique opportunity develop skills in hands-on, collaborative community development projects.

MSU In-Person Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Career Fair and Symposium

Join us for our in-Person Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Symposium.

The DEI Symposium will take place on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, from 3:30pm-8:00pm.

This event is open to all majors and MSU undergraduate and graduate students, and recently graduated alumni seeking internship, co-op, part-time, and full-time opportunities in various fields. Students are encouraged to explore their career options and interact with employers to learn more about opportunities.
