“PSALM OF DECREE: DON’T QUIT! HELP IS ON THE WAY”
Psalm 121; 1 Samuel 10 & 11
) by ELDER CALVIN L. KING SR.
This psalm was written to encourage us that God will be with us through every area of life. As you go on your journey a song of praise will come to mind. Verse one is not a declaration of hope, but rather a cry of despair. We are pilgrims on a road from the time we got saved until now. There are problems that come up in our lives that strip us of our spirit and glory. It almost feels as if Satan, the devil, has slapped us in the face. However, David has confidence in this, he says, “ . . . my help comes from the Lord.” That’s my source.
In the tenth chapter of 1 Samuel it talks about how Israel went about looking for a king. Without warning, Samuel pours olive oil over Saul's head and kisses him on the forehead. Now, Saul is king whether he likes it or not. Saul is told that God has anointed him, but Saul (wisely) is skeptical, so Samuel tells him there will be a series of signs if he needs proof. Samuel tells Saul he will go to Gilgal and wait seven days until Samuel comes with some sacrifices.
Not long into Saul's reign, he's faced with his first challenge: Nahash, king of the Amorites, decrees that he would gouge out the eye of each man and prevent them from overthrowing his rule. However, seven thousand men have escaped to a city called Jabesh-Gilead. Satan will try to blind us spiritually and then brag about it. What will Saul do? Don’t quit! Help is on the way. It doesn’t matter how the enemy comes against us; we must never give up! It may feel like your very life is being threatened, but never give up!
Saul’s anger rose up against the men of Jabesh-Gilead. He sent word to Israel that help was on the way, and then he killed the army of the Ammonites until “the heat of the day.” When God sanctions your position he will allow circumstances to arise that will validate your position and leadership. Everybody can’t be the head. We are the body of Christ, and every person in the body is blessed. What part are you in the body? Each one of us has a function and purpose in the His body. —Notes by USK
