Sermon Summary | October 28, 2018
“THE LORD IS” ( Psalm 23 ) by OUR PASTOR ULYSSES STEPHEN KING, JR.
As I was driving home Saturday evening from Sacramento I thought about the many deaths I’ve either read or heard about over and in the news this year. Some violent; some by suicide or natural causes; some by unforeseen circumstances; and others by accident. The attacks by Satan against the church and the people of God in many incidences caught me by surprise. My spirit was heavy, weary and tired. I prayed all night to God for rest. I needed God to restore my spirit, my strength, and soul.

My soul is the essence of who I am. My soul is my personhood. My soul is my identity. Watch this. Whenever you lose yourself, you need to be restored. Whenever you lose your purpose, whenever you lose your identity, you need to be restored.

David said, “He restores my soul.” In other words David said God would put things back together for you. He’ll give you back what you lost and then some. Who can testify that God is in the restoration business? Who can testify He gave it back to me? Yes! He gave me my joy back! He gave me my peace back! God IS in the restoration business!

And this is what David is saying in so many words: When I look back over my life and think about it, I have come to the conclusion that the Lord is my shepherd. He didn’t put it in the past or future tense. He just said, “The Lord IS.” He IS whatever He was; and whatever He was, He IS. And whatever He IS, He will always be, because He’s the same today as He is tomorrow. So He IS in the present at all times. The Lord IS! You can say that today. You can say that tomorrow. You can say, “The Lord IS!” Because He IS who He IS, the Lord IS my shepherd! —Notes by USK

Daylight Saving Time Ends Sunday, November 4, 2018

Thi s weekend ends daylight saving time, the day we switch back the clocks and get that much-needed extra hour of sleep. The change will happen on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 2 a.m, while most of us are asleep. This means it will get dark an hour earlier each day.

On Nov. 4, sunrise will be at 7:02 a.m. while sunset will be at 5:18 p.m. You'll need to set your clocks back one hour before going to bed on Saturday.

Five things you may not know about daylight saving time:
  1. It is a great opportunity to transition easier and join a Sunday School class. Class starts at 9:15 a.m. in the Deacon Solomon Wortz, Jr. Prayer Room.
  2. Daylight saving time was not intended to benefit farmers in the U.S. as many people think. The agriculture industry was opposed to the switch when it was first implemented on March 31, 1918, as a wartime measure, according to history.com. In reality, retail stores benefited from another hour of shopping time.
  3. Not everyone in the United States springs forward and falls back. Hawaii and Arizona do not spring forward or fall back.
  4. It's daylight saving time, not daylight savings time. Drop the "s" once and for all.
Giving Back To God!
Jesus said in Luke 6:38, “Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Mental Wellness: Empowering Churches
Many churches are doing what they must to become informed, connected, and prepared for helping members and the community overcome, manage, and develop their mental health! Here are a list of days and events in which churches can use to bring about awareness and education to remove the stigma and provide resources to those who need them!

Our Church Mission
The Memorial Tabernacle Church has come together by the Holy Spirit for the specific purpose of preaching and teaching the word of God, (the Bible), and about Jesus Christ, God's son, and to proclaim the gospel of the Kingdom of God to the North Oakland Community and its environs; to bring healing to the brokenhearted and deliverance to the oppressed; to be a center of genuine concern for those in need, a sanctuary of community worship that is neither shallow nor restrained, a spiritual home where members find an expression of precious love for one another and a haven for the unsaved.
