New Educators Welcomed
to the MTPS Family
The District Administrative Team and members of the Board of Education gathered in the High School North Media Center on Thursday to welcome our new educators to the Middletown Township Public Schools family.
After receiving their district-issued Chromebooks and helping themselves to a breakfast sponsored by the Middletown Township Educators Association, our educators were greeted by Superintendent of Schools, Mrs. Mary Ellen Walker, and led through a series of informational presentations by Director of Evaluation and Assessment Practices, John Kerrigan, Ed. D.
After a discussion of various instructional, assessment and safety topics, our educators were provided a guided bus tour through our Middletown community by Director of Social Studies and Technology, Mrs. Wendy Morales, Ed. D., and Director of Arts and Business Education, Mr. Steven Graziano. On the tour, our new teachers developed a sense of our town's rich history and resources, which continues to inform our growth today.
On behalf of the entire MTPS community, welcome to all of our new educators. We can't wait to work and grow with you.
As we approach the beginning of the new school year, the MTPS technology team is requesting that our middle and high school students login to their district-issued Chromebook to allow automatic operating system updates to occur, as well as to ensure their device is functioning correctly.
If a device is not functioning properly and is in need of service, please complete the MTPS Technology Support Request Form, and a member of the technology team will be in contact.
The MTPS Technology Support Request Form is the preferred method for students/families to contact the technology support team.

The new curriculum was written by district teachers with our school community in mind, in alignment to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards that were released in 2020. Parents/Guardians and students are encouraged to review the topics that will be covered in all health classes this year by looking over the letters in their school's virtual backpacks, or by following the links below.

MTPS Start Strong Assessments
The Start Strong assessments were created in response to COVD-19-related school disruptions and lack of available data from spring 2021.
These assessments provide a snapshot of the amount of support students are likely to need in the fall of 2021.
They are not meant to replace any preferred assessment strategies being used locally, but can be used to supplement existing efforts and offer educators an early indication of the level of support students may need.

Heroes Cafe Summer Fund Drive Aids No Limits Cafe
Following a successful launch of the Bayview Elementary School Heroes Cafe during the 2020-21 academic year, members of the school's community extended their effort over the summer to the district's Extended School Year (ESY) programs at Harmony Elementary and Thorne Middle School.
The Heroes Cafe is an educational program that offers students an opportunity to work cooperatively with peers to accept and fill beverage orders for their teachers and staff members. Though the service is free of charge, the students do collect donations. The profits help support their community partner, No Limits Cafe on Route 35 near the Red Bank section of Middletown, which provides employment opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities.
At the end of the previous school year, the Heroes Cafe was able to donate more than $1000 to the No Limits Cafe. Following the conclusion of the ESY program, their work yielded another $490 donation.
The No Limits Cafe works to empower adults with intellectual disabilities by providing employment and professional training to help them lead fulfilling lives within their community. Visit the No Limits Cafe for additional information.

Bayview Garden Making a Big Impact at No Limits Cafe
Though school is out for summer, student-gardeners ay Bayview Elementary School are still tending to their campus crops, and the effort is yielding positive results for their community partners at the No Limits Cafe.
Situated on Route 35 in Middletown, the No Limits Cafe is a local lunch spot that trains, employs and empowers adults with intellectual disabilities to lead fulfilling lives within our community, and increase awareness about their potential.
In support of the positive environment being cultivated at the No Limits Cafe, Bayview students made a recent donation of vegetables to the restaurant's kitchen, including bushels of kale, ripe cherry tomatoes and giant cucumbers.
The district thanks these student-gardeners for their efforts and support of this wonderful organization.

Bayview Duo Attends National
Youth Leadership Forum
Bayview Elementary School students Averie Zerbo and Kaiden Leak ventured to the New York City campus of St. John's University from July 17-23, where the pair participated in the National Youth Leadership Forum: Pathway to STEM summer learning program.
The program offered attendees hands-on opportunities in the fields of robotics, software development and programming, medicine, crime scene investigation, and introductions to other relevant skillsets in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education setting.
Some of the unique learning experiences from Zerbo and Leak's stay at St. John's included the chance to design different amusement park rides, build and program a robot, and even dissect a cow's heart to learn more about the inner-workings of the organ.
Zerbo and Leak hope to build on this experience when they enter Bayshore Middle School for the 2021-22 academic year.

Summer SOAR Program Underway with Tasty Mathematics Lessons
The MTPS Summer SOAR Program offers additional academic opportunities in mathematics and literacy for students in grades K-8. Instruction is delivered in two-week blocks over a six-week period. Students and staff worked hard in the opening week to further develop their skills and readiness for the upcoming 2021-22 academic year.
One lesson was particularly tasty, as Mr. Font transformed his classroom into a bakery, working with his junior student-chefs to fill cupcake orders by making mathematical arrays out of their dough. Keep up the wonderful work!
