MTBOE Partners with Township for Recreation Center Feasibility Study
The Middletown Board of Education and Township Committee have announced a collaborative effort to investigate the feasibility of re-purposing the Port Monmouth Elementary School property to develop an indoor athletics facility and recreation center along the Route 36 corridor.

The MTBOE and Township Committee have retained Pinnacle Indoor Sports to spearhead this study, an organization situated in Louisville, KY that has conducted similar initiatives across 41 states.

"In 2019, Port Monmouth School was closed and has been vacant for the last two years," said Board of Education President Frank Capone. "We are proud to be partnering with the Township to work toward creating a much-needed indoor sports and recreation complex for the residents of Middletown, rather than selling the property to the highest bidder where it may end up being over-developed."

Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
On January 17th our Middletown community and the nation at large honored the life and legacy of the late Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

During his life, Dr. King's teachings and actions facilitated immense societal change, the ripples of which continue to move and shake our society today. To honor the man and his work, students and staff of High School North and South, as well as Middletown Township Mayor Tony Perry, joined together to recite Dr. King's integral "I Have a Dream" speech, which was delivered on Aug. 28, 1963 at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

District Educators Named to AMTNJ Executive Board
District Director of Evaluation and Assessment Practices, John Kerrigan, and High School North mathematics educator, Kara Teehan, have both been elected to serve on the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New Jersey's Executive Board for 2022.

Dr. Kerrigan and Dr. Teehan taught together at High School North in 2014-2015, and have since completed their doctorates at Rutgers University, in addition to co-presenting at national mathematics conferences.
Recognizing the importance of giving back to the community, both Dr. Kerrigan and Dr. Teehan have volunteered for the AMTNJ for two years by organizing virtual professional development for teachers around the state, creating contests for middle and high school students across New Jersey, and publishing articles for the greater mathematics education community.

Dr. Kerrigan and Dr. Teehan hope to use their positions on the state mathematics executive board to share what they have learned in Middletown about mathematics instruction and intervention, as well as bring additional resources and connections to Middletown Township Public Schools to further our mathematics education initiatives.

Congratulations to Dr. Kerrigan and Dr. Teehan on their monumental appointments!
