Youth Talent Show & Fundraiser
Saturday, June 5th @ 7 PM
The Open Door Youth are a talented group of folks and they want to share that talent with you! We’ll be holding an online talent show/fundraiser, which will debut on Saturday June 5 at 7 p.m. They not only want to share their talent but they also want to invite folks from the Open Door congregations to submit videos as well. Do you have a talent/no talent you would like to share via video with the congregation? Contact Jeff Lowery at [email protected] for instructions on how to be a part of this event.

Start working on your magic tricks, juggling, storytelling, music *, or unique athletic feats. All ages are welcome to participate. Join us on June 5 for a fun fellowship event and celebration.

*Note: Due to copyright restrictions we do have some limitations on what music we can show on YouTube, contact Jeff for more info.

Morningside Yard Angels - April Results
We had nine people helping on Saturday, April 22nd: Sara Amend, Fred Cooper, Kelly Freels, Tom Jewett, Karna Johnson, Candace Nichols, Sue Reid, Paul Wagner, and Judy Webster.

Everybody worked hard and got wet and cold and tired. But we greeted each other happily, shared hot coffee, tea, donuts, and the latest news of our families and friends. It is a 'get together' event that we all enjoy, in spite of the hard work, frequent rain and cold. We happily share friendship and time.

Fred and all of us Trustees really appreciate people’s participation. We want to ensure that when we are allowed to come back to church, Morningside won’t look as if we abandoned it to ruffians or elements.

Sue Reid,
for the Trustees
CHP Working On Re-Opening, Location Change for Now
Are you ready to get out of your home or apartment and help someone? Are you ready to see some friendly faces in person (still masked and socially distanced!)?
Congregations Helping People is excited to reopen to serve our community after a year on hiatus due to the corona virus/covid-19 pandemic. We are in great need of volunteers!

We are going to do things a little differently than before the pandemic. We are starting out to serve clients at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, located at 1770 Baxter Rd SE, Salem, OR 97306. We are going to open with at least one or two board members -- and hopefully, two volunteers every session.

We plan to have sessions where we will see clients by appointment only, either in person or remotely, just two Saturdays a month from 10 am to 1 pm. Masks will be required, we will social distance, and hand sanitizer and masks will be available for those who need those things while in their appointment.

Volunteers will greet clients, check to be sure they have brought necessary paperwork, and work with the board members to help clients in our community. Volunteers are not expected to be there for every session, and we will train you. Just help as you are able!

You can help! We are going to have a training session for volunteers on Saturday, May 22nd from 10 am to noon. We hope to start our CHP sessions on Saturday, June 5th. You can attend the training session to find out if this is something that you might be interested in, and you do not have to make a commitment, if you just want to check it out! Likewise, if you are interested in volunteering but can’t come on May 22nd, we can find another time to train you.

If volunteering is not in the cards, but if you would like to support Congregations Helping People in the work that they do to provide direct aid to the community, donations can be given through their website at Chpsalem.org, or mailed to Congregations Helping People, PO Box 12412, Salem, OR. 97309

If you are interested in volunteering, or if you have any questions, please contact Laura Metzger at [email protected].

Thank you and God Bless You!
