Worship Announcement from Pastor Alyssa
In July, Open Door Churches opened for in person worship and since then we as a pastoral team have received some concerns and desires. The ODC Pastoral Team has spent many hours in conversation to discern how best to respond to the concerns of pastoral presence and live preaching on Sunday mornings. Your Open Door Pastoral Team is made up of 3 full-time pastors who are serving 4 congregations with 5 in person and 1 online worship service every Sunday. To respond to your concerns we have developed a 3 circuit system that allows for pastors to be present for the full worship service and preach live in all of our congregations on a Sunday morning. The Open Door Board approved this as an interim circuit while they continue to discern and receive feedback on how best 3 pastors can serve the ODC community. Below is the circuit schedule that we will begin on Sunday, September 12th.

  • Circuit South -- 9:30am Trinity and 11:15am Sanctuary FUMC
  • Circuit Central -- 8:45am MICAH and 10:30am Morningside
  • Circuit North -- 10:00am Clear Lake

Open Door Churches Summer Youth Group - September
All youth 6-12th grade are welcome to join us.

There are lots of mixed emotions as we go back to school this week, some folks are excited, some are a little apprehensive. Most of our youth are going back full time in person and we keep each family in prayer as well as all of the teachers and staff as they begin a new year in an unprecedented time.

As we begin our fall schedule, we are watching closely the COVID numbers and will make decisions that are best for the safety of all our youth. Our intention is to meet on Thursday evenings online for Jackbox games and on Sunday afternoons in person/outside. We will meet next Thursday September 9th from 7-8:30 and will meet on Sunday September 12th from 1-2:30 for another round of frisbee golf. This time we'll try the course at the Oregon State Hospital. More details about where to meet will be emailed out next week. No youth group this Sunday, enjoy your labor day weekend.

NOTE: As we begin to host "in-person" events, we are asking all youth to have their parents fill out an updated permission health form. You can fill out the form by the PERMISSION SLIP link.

If you would like more information contact Jeff Lowery at Revjeff@opendoorchurches.org for more information and to get signed up for our weekly emails.

Educating Ourselves About Racism -
We're Back!
Goodbye summer! Hello fall!

Kim and I have been making plans for our upcoming class season. And we’re glad you’re a part of it!

While we had hoped to have an in-person social, the Delta variant has made that impossible for now. Ugh.
We’ll be Zoom gathering again beginning Monday, September 13 from 7-8pm PST. Here’s the first thing we’ll be doing:

September 13
Welcome back. Where have we been, where are we going?

We’ve missed you! As we gather again on this journey to educate ourselves, we’ll take some time to reflect on what we’ve learned and where we’ll be heading. What have been your favorite sessions? What has blown your mind? How have you changed because of this class? What can we be doing? What will we be talking about this fall and winter?
Here’s a head’s up for what’s in store for the rest of September:

September 20
Being a Racial Ally - Lori Murphy

As we commit more and more to challenging the system of racism and its effects on others and ourselves, we likely will come across the idea of becoming and being a racial ally. This session's topic is based on the work of Anneliese Singh, PhD and LPC.

September 27
Raise Your Race Consciousness - Lori Murphy

Race-consciousness means that we are aware of how racism works as a system. We'll discuss how we can do things that help us claim an antiracist identity and expand our knowledge about our own race and the race of others. This session's topic is based on the work of Anneliese Singh, PhD and LPC.
Lori Murphy Cole had the joyous career of working in education at Chemeketa Community College. Since her retirement, she's continued teaching and working with a variety of communities on equity issues. She has been class participant over the past year.

And there’s more. We look forward to being together again and sharing with you. Let us know if you have any questions. We’ll send out Zoom info in the next email. See you soon!

“But let justice roll down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.” Amos 5:24
