Dear Friends,
A favorite Bible story in the Hilty household is Genesis 32:22-30. The passage tells about a strange encounter between Jacob and a mysterious traveler on the banks of a river at night. The two wrestle with each other until the sun begins to rise, and at the end, Jacob receives a new name…and also a new life.
It is an unusual story for sure, and the third passage we will be considering in our Bible Toolbox series this coming Sunday, October 11. Pastor Sarah Jo will be the preacher, and will guide our church in considering what this odd narrative might have to teach us about a life of faith today.
Plus! At all services, we will also be hearing briefly from the Foundation of Missouri United Methodist Church about their vital work in our congregation. And after the 11:00 service, Ingrid Headley will be providing a tour of our sanctuary’s stained glass windows for anyone who is interested in learning about the (sometimes mysterious) stories that our own windows have to tell.
In Christ,
Daniel

We invite you to explore the report and celebrate all that we have accomplished together as we continue connecting all people with Jesus Christ.

This week, we are highlighting two ways MUMC members are sharing their time and talents through outreach ministry.
MUMC member Greg Thackery serves on the Columbia CROP Walk Steering Committee and has been supporting Don Harter of Broadway Christian Church during his fourth annual Cross-Missouri CROP Walk along the Katy Trail. Don also spent time walking with Della Lamb Executive Director Ryan Hudnall during September's Walk for Welcome, sharing encouragement and advice for covering the full length of the Katy Trail. Donations to MUMC's CROP Walk fundraising effort may still be placed in the offering plate through Sunday, October 25. Please note "CROP Walk" in the memo line.
Another opportunity to serve is the final 2026 Sleep in Heavenly Peace Bed Build on Saturday, October 10, from 8:45 a.m. to noon at Community United Methodist Church. Volunteers of all ages are welcome, no construction experience is needed, and the goal is to help provide beds for children in our community who do not have one of their own.
Thank you for your continued generosity as we live out MUMC's mission through service and outreach.
— Greg Thackery
