MUSD educators awarded MCEF, VEDA education grants for 2024-25 school year

Spangler Elementary School's Amber Garcia, Milpitas High School Extension at MUSD Innovation Campus' Sejee Kim and Milpitas High School's Emily Moore were all recipients of 2024-25 Milpitas Community Education Foundation (MCEF) annual educator grants totaling $10,000, while Curtner Elementary School's Laura Wahied was selected for the $2,000 Vedic Education and Devotional Academy (VEDA) grant program.


Garcia won funding for her Community Garden; Kim for a Community Room; Emily Moore for providing musical instruments for MUSD elementary families in need; and Wahied for her Building the Future: Lego SPIKE Kits to Ignite STEAM Learning.

Spangler Elementary School principal and student produce video reading of Resolution 2025.23 Recognizing and Honoring November as California Sikh American Awareness and Appreciation Month, which was unanimously adopted by the MUSD Board of Education at the November 19th meeting.

MUSD 2024 Veterans Day Video Tribute


Each year, Milpitas Unified School District takes time to honor family, friends and loved ones of our MUSD community who served in the military with a video tribute that includes the military veterans names as well as their relation to our MUSD team members. Thank you for your service, Veterans!

Recognitions

Manufacturing Day 2024 organizers, partners and student participants


BD Biosciences, Corsair Gaming, City of Milpitas, Simon Property Group (Great Mall) and MUSD Team Members were honored by the MUSD Board and District staff for organizing, hosting, partnering and making Manufacturing Day an amazing event for our MUSD students.

Milpitas High School Speech and Debate Team


Milpitas High School Speech and Debate Team were recognized by the MUSD Board and District staff for continued success in Speech and Debate Tournaments throughout this 2024-25 school year.

Thomas Russell MS cross country team


Thomas Russell Middle School Cross Country Team was honored by the Board of Education and District leadership for completing a successful 2024 Fall season with accolades for our MUSD student-athletes. TRMS took first place overall at the North Division Meet and the Cross Country Section Finals.

MUSD Teacher of the Year Sappho Chow


Spangler Elementary School Science Specialist Sappho Chow was recognized by the Board of Education and District leadership for being Milpitas Unified School District's 2024 Teacher of the Year.

MUSD Filipino Team Members for FAHM


MUSD Filipino Team Members were recognized by the MUSD Board and District staff for Filipino American History Month.

Highlights

MUSD saves taxpayers nearly $2M with Measure E refinancing; $17.5M total

The MUSD Board of Education voted unanimously to approve refinancing of the 2012 Measure E Bond of $64.7M. Based on current market rates, refinancing generates taxpayer savings of approximately $1.86 million over the remaining life of the bond in a report outlined by KNN Public Finance, LLC.


Since 2001, the District has refinanced bonds five times to generate taxpayer savings. The total refunding savings for taxpayers amounts to $17.49 million over the life of the bonds (Measure B in 1996, Measure E in 2021, Measure AA in 2018).

Calaveras Hills High School's Interim Admin in Charge Jonathan Payne, along with Dr. Kimi Schmidt, share Principal's Report about the school's Culture and Climate with the addition of freshmen and sophomores to the new campus.

MUSD Study Session dives into data for English Learners

MUSD's Learning and Development team shared a presentation on English Learners with data from the 2023-2024 ELPAC results, English Learner progress on CAASPP in ELA, reclassification data for students, and A-G access for English Learners.

Superintendent's State of the District


Superintendent Cheryl Jordan shared her State of the District Video Update, which included recent and upcoming district events as well as the district's Attendance Rates for the 2024-25 year.
