MHS students stress importance of lung cancer screenings

A Milpitas High School student trio continues to spread the word on the importance of lung cancer screenings through their initiative, Project Breathe Hope. "We aim to increase lung cancer screening awareness in high risk populations and communities with lower screening rates and demystify the Low Dose Computed Tomography Screening Process," they explained. The student team hosted a free educational event on April 17th to help share resources with the community.

MUSD educators share how they utilize AI in the classroom

At the April 28th Board of Education meeting, a group of MUSD educators highlighted how teachers are leveraging AI (Artificial Intelligence) tools to support teaching and learning. These innovative educators completed the Krause Center for Innovation AI Capstone. They shared best practices for utilizing AI in the classroom; shared examples; and reflected on the outcomes.

Principal's Report - Burnett Elementary

Burnett Elementary School Principal Brandi McMillan shared her Principal's Report, highlighting inclusion practices at the school site where they continue to focus services and support systems to ensure all learners are full engaged.

Each meeting, the Board of Education recognizes one Classified and one Certificated employee from a school site for being amazing educators and going that extra mile for students. The school team members select the recipients from their site.

Superintendent's update

MUSD Superintendent Cheryl Jordan provided her latest State of the District Update, sharing district-wide attendance data by school site, as well as all of the amazing students, educators activities and programs in MUSD schools.

MUSD Board adopts 2027-28 school year calendar

The MUSD Human Relations Team shared the detailed process for adopting a school calendar, specifically for the 2027-28 school year, which follows a multi-stage timeline involving broad community input and review before a final recommendation is made to the Board of Education.

The calendar adoption process begins in December/January when Human Relations creates a draft calendar and survey. During February and March, the Input Provider Survey is distributed to classified staff, certificated staff, management, and parents/caregivers. Feedback from staff and the School Site Council (SSC) is then shared with the Community Board Advisory Council (CBAC) in March/April. The process concludes in April when Human Relations and the CBAC Chair/Designee present the information to the MUSD Board of Trustees for final approval.

Facilities Use Rates set for 2026-27

The MUSD Business Services Team worked with Facilitron to update the 2026-27 rates, using the California Department of Education's calculation sheet, based on our 2024-25 data, as it includes a full year of usage. The calculation sheet includes all supplies, utilities, personnel, rebuilding costs, and internal and external facility use hours. Estimates result in approximately $175,000 in revenue for 2026-27.

Milpitas HS student creators Camryn Yee, Kinnera  Chilakamarry, Ravleen Kaur, Vivienne Hadi, Elaina Manzon, Lara Kulkarni and the Korean Dance Team members for being amazing scholars and excelling at the K-Pop and K-Speech Competition at the San Francisco Korean Education Center.

Milpitas HS Librarian Mia Gittlen for being an amazing educator and recipient of the 2026 I Love My Librarian Award.

Milpitas HS basketball coach Champ Wrencher for being an amazing coach and mentor, and selected as the league's Coach of Year.
