Celebrating our Classified Support School Employees

Students from Weller Elementary School were featured in this special video resolution Declaring the Week of May 17-23, 2026 as Classified School Employee Week. The Board unanimously adopted the resolution, which premiered at the May 26th Board of Education Meeting in recognition of all MUSD Classified Support Team Members.

MMCHS Student Board Rep takes lead on new Climate Sustainability resolution

Student Board Representative Nia Gupte, a 2026 MUSD Middle College High School graduate, helped develop Resolution 2026.38 Advancing Climate Sustainability and Educational Partnerships, which was unanimously adopted by the MUSD Board of Education on May 26.

New faces of MUSD

New Director of Adult Education Workforce Development and Industry Partnerships

Maria Meraz brings 24 years of education experience to MUSD after serving as a Director of Regional Occupational Programs in the Sacramento area where she developed pathways in multiple school districts: "Today education must go beyond access. It must provide clear, connected pathways to opportunities."

New Principal of Pomeroy Elementary School

Jane Jung comes to MUSD from Mountain View Whisman School District, where she served as principal of Bubb Elementary School: "Milpitas Unified's plan and commitment to ensuring that all students are college, career, and life ready are beliefs that I hold about public education and why we are here to serve our children."

Sinnott Elementary School Principal Tawiah Burroughs shared her Principal's Report, highlighting the school's English Learner Reclassifications and EL Strategies used by educators.

Each meeting, the Board of Education recognizes one Classified and one Certificated employee from a school site for being amazing educators and going that extra mile for students. The school team members select the recipients from their site. Linda Sebree was Sinnott's Classified selection.

Superintendent's update

MUSD Superintendent Cheryl Jordan provided her latest State of the District Update, sharing district-wide attendance data by school site, as well as the upcoming end of the year recognitions and awards for the 2025-26 school year.

Inclusive Practices & Supporting Students in the Least Restrictive Environment

Our MUSD team members updated the Board and community on district-wide inclusion initiatives and efforts to increase students’ participation in the least restrictive environment (LRE) in MUSD schools, including data regarding special education enrollment as well as graduation enrollment/completion and diploma rates for students with disabilities. Additionally, the team shared on the continuum of services available for our neurodiverse students to meet the needs of and provide a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) for all students.

Board adopts educator-recommended Imagine Learning math curriculum

The Board unanimously adopted the MUSD Curriculum Policy Committee's recommendation for Imagine IM CA for TK-8th grade and at Calaveras Hills High School, Milpitas Middle College, and MHS Extension. The committee braided together work from the Preschool-3rd Alignment Team, the Cal Curriculum Team, and Access4ALL to make an informed decision.

Milpitas High School's NJROTC program for receiving the Distinguished Unit Award and Most Improved Unit Award.

Milpitas HS student Diego Hernandez Chavez for being an amazing student gamer and qualifying for the eSports Nationals.

Curtner Elementary School MEO Team for being amazing student athletes and winning a fourth straight Milpitas Elementary Olympics Overall Points Team Championship.

Middle College HS students Nia Gupte and Janvi Balakrishnan for being amazing student leaders as part of the California Association of Student Leaders (CASL) program.
