MHS Aquatics Program making historic strides

The Milpitas High School boys water polo and boys swim teams both won Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division Championships this past season, under the direction of MHS head coach and Milpitas Aquatics Club (MAC) head coach Kyler VanSwol. For Polo, it meant a first ever Central Coast Section (CCS) Playoff berth. For Swim, they produced their first ever qualifier to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Championships.

Along with six Community Swim Days open to all Milpitas residents already scheduled for this summer (July 11, 26, Aug. 15 remaining), MAC has implemented Summer Community Lap Swim at the MHS pool on all weekdays through August 7 from 12:30-3:30pm.

Middle College High School

Valerie Lamb steps into this role after eight years as a counselor with MUSD at Middle College HS and the MHS Extension at MUSD Innovation Campus: "I'm excited to keep on supporting our Middle College families but in a different capacity. ....As acting principal, I plan to listen to what is needed; keep collaborating and strengthening our partnerships with SJCC-EVC; keep growing our middle college; and adding a new pathway to our dual enrollment."

William Brown comes to MUSD with a wealth of middle school experience, serving previously as a teacher, assistant principal, founding principal and dean at the middle school level: "Going through the [hiring] process, one thing that became very clear was the desire and the enthusiasm around supporting learner success as well as supporting teachers and achieving that end and I'm really excited about playng a part in that."

Each meeting, the Board of Education recognizes one Classified and one Certificated employee from a school site for being amazing educators and going that extra mile for students. The school team members select the recipients from their site.

Superintendent's update

MUSD Superintendent Cheryl Jordan provided her latest State of the District Update, sharing district-wide attendance data by school site, as well as proposed changes to the Short Term Independent Study Policy.

MUSD Board approves upgrade to solar capacity across district

After hearing a detailed report on the strategic advantages of partnering with Phytoplankton Project Co Solar LLC to implement a district-wide solar project, the Board unanimously moved forward with the initiative, which focuses on enhancing financial sustainability, campus security, and educational opportunities while promoting environmental stewardship.

Student Nutrition Services team touts scratch cooking in annual update

Director of Student Nutrition Services Sandy Huynh and SNS team members reviewed the financial status of the child nutrition program, the intentional efforts to improve food quality by increasing freshly prepared meals in MUSD kitchens, as well as the plan for next school year.

Board approves updates to existing policies; reviews new one

The Board unanimously adopted updates to Board Policy 6146.1 on Graduation Requirements, Board Policy 6200 on Adult Education, Board Policy 6152.1 Placement in Mathematics Courses, and Board Policy 0510 on School Accountability Report Cards, which all have been revised to reflect the necessary language changes based on local policies and Education Code changes. Additionally, the Board conducted a first reading of proposed new Board Policy 5147 on Dropout Prevention.

Superintendent's contract extended for additional year

The MUSD Board unanimously approved a one-year contract extension for Superintendent Cheryl Jordan, who is currently in her 37th year with the district. This decision followed her 'Satisfactory' annual evaluation. Additionally, the Board unanimously approved a compensation increase for the Superintendent in alignment with those of the Milpitas Management Association and other groups.

LCAP Update, Proposed Budget approved for 2026-27 school year

In separate unanimous votes, the MUSD Board approved the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) Update and the Proposed Budget for the 2026-27 school year.
