MHS Chinese Club embodies essence of Lunar New Year

At the February 10th Board of Education meeting, student dancers in Milpitas High School's Chinese Club shared a traditional dance in celebration of the Lunar New Year inside the Randall World Languages School Multi-Use Room. 2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse. In addition to their performance, the club was recognized by the Board of Education and District leadership for being amazing student leaders and promoting the MUSD Culture of WE.

Middle College BSU expresses importance of Black History Month in video resolution

Our MUSD Middle College High School's Black Student Union members were featured in this special video reading of Resolution 2026.23 Recognizing and Honoring February as National African American History Month, which was unanimously adopted by our MUSD Board of Education at the February 10th meeting.

Thomas Russell Middle School Principal Shangrila Mia-Ramzan and Assistant Principal Emily Delora-Ellefson presented the Principal's Report, with a focus on enriching learning opportunities for TRMS students.

MUSD Superintendent Cheryl Jordan provided her latest State of the District Update, sharing district-wide attendance data by school site as well as the many forms of student civic engagement in relation to our MUSD Strategic Commitments.

Study Session

Mandarin continues to grow in Randall's multilingual program

In this February 10th study session, Randall World Languages School Principal Kristan Prolo and Assistant Principal Daisy Gonzalez shared the continued enhancement of the Randall World Languages School Multilingual Program, with a focus on the Mandarin as a heritage language programming in combination with English and Spanish languages. All Transitional Kindergarten through second grade students receive Mandarin instruction three times a week in the Randall program, with one additional grade level added each school year.

Board ratifies pay hike for Certificated Employees

Following negotiations between MUSD and Milpitas Teachers Association (MTA) that concluded on January 21, 2026, the MTA unit members ratified the Tentative Agreements between MUSD and the Association on February 2, 2026, which was unanimously approved by the Board of Education at the February 10th meeting. Key provisions agreed upon for the 2025-2026 school year include: A salary schedule increase of 1.83% across the board, retroactive to July 1, 2025; and a $179 increase to the medical cap, effective January 1, 2026.

Our MUSD Learning and Innovation Team provided updates and data outcomes in two February 10th reports: Local Control Accountability Plan Mid-Year Update and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).

Board reviews, updates policies on immigration enforcement

The Board conducted a first reading and scheduled a March 10th public hearing for review of new proposed Board Policy 1445, which addresses a district's response to immigration enforcement. This comes with the passing of new law, AB 495, requiring districts to update their policies by March 1, 2026, with language that is equivalent to the model policy language developed by the California Attorney General in, "Promoting a Safe and Secure Learning Environment for All: Guidance and Model Policies to Assist California's K-12 Schools in Responding to Requests for Access and Information for Immigration Enforcement Purposes." Additionally, the Board adopted four updated board policies: Board Policy 0450 Comprehensive Safety Plan; Board Policy 1340 Access to District Records; Board Policy 5125 - Student Records; and Board Policy and Exhibit(1) 5125.1 Release of Directory Information.
