Folklorico Dancers of Randall kick off 2022-23 school year
with spectacular performance
The Folklorico Dancers of Randall Elementary World Languages School gave an vibrant performance at the Milpitas Unified School District's first Board of Education meeting of the 2022-23 school year on Tuesday, August 23 inside the school's Multi-Use Building.

The incredibly talented performers, led by Maestro Delia Trejo of the Los Olas Dance Company, were honored by our MUSD Board of Education and District Leadership for representing MUSD throughout the Bay Area and exemplifying our Culture of WE.

The next MUSD Board of Education meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 13 at Randall, which is located at 1300 Edsel Drive.
  
RESOLUTIONS
MUSD Board unanimously adopts Safe Schools, Workforce Housing resolutions
The MUSD Board of Education kicked off the 2022-23 school year with two key resolutions: A School Safety Resolution highlighting the district's commitment to safety for all and a Workforce Housing Resolution supporting more housing opportunities for all its educators.

RECOGNITIONS
Sheen Raina - Milpitas HS student
Sheen Raina, a Milpitas High School student, was honored by the Board of Education and District leadership for her fundraising efforts and performance in support of the Sankara Eye Foundation.
Rhoda Jordan Shapiro - Milpitas Beat founder
MUSD alumna Rhoda Jordan Shapiro, founder/editor/journalist for the Milpitas Beat, was honored by the Board of Education and District leadership for being named a recipient of the California School Boards Association's 2022 Golden Quill Award.
Knights of Columbus St. Elizabeth Council 8747
Gwan Alisantosa and the Knights of Columbus St. Elizabeth Council 8747 were recognized by the Board of Education and District Leadership for continued support of our MUSD learners and team members for continued support of our MUSD learners and team members. At the August 23 meeting, they presented a grant award check of $5,000 from Columbian Foundation to support the Special Education Program at Milpitas High School.

SPECIAL CEREMONY
Summer School Graduation Ceremony precedes board of education meeting
Through their hard work and perseverance, the newest Milpitas HS Class of 2022 alumni Diego Lopez Chovojay and Donovan Flores Ramirez earned their high school diplomas and were celebrated at the 2022 Summer School Graduation Ceremony on Aug. 23 at Randall Elementary World Languages School in front of family, friends, Board of Education, MUSD Leadership, MUSD team members, and community members.

HIGHLIGHTS
Board revises November meetings schedule
The Board approved a revision to the 2022-23 board meeting schedule. Instead of two meetings in the month of November, there will be a single board meeting on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 in the middle of the month prior to the Thanksgiving break.

Superintendent shares changes
to Milpitas HS leadership team
The Milpitas High School Leadership Team has a new configuration to open the
2022-23 academic year with Skyler Draeger as the MHS Associate Principal and Andrew Dinh as a new Assistant Principal.

The Board gave their approval during Closed Session and Superintendent Cheryl Jordan announced the moves to the community later in the August 23 meeting.

MUSD introduces newest team member: Program Supervisor Lisa Torres
With unanimous support from the Board of Education, Superintendent Cheryl Jordan announced the hiring of Lisa Torres as MUSD's new Program Supervisor of Mental Health at the August 23 meeting.

Torres comes to MUSD after many years of experience in mental health and mental health support as a CASSY counselor as well as a therapist, clinical supervisor and program manager of community and school-based mental health programs. Additionally, she worked at Kaiser Permanente and headed up juvenile support systems and corrections.

"Through her experience, she'll be able to provide expanded support for our mental health program," Superintendent Jordan said.

"I'm so honored to be chosen for this position with MUSD," Torres added. "I've been drawn to MUSD because of the culture of supporting student success by engaging parents, staff and community partners."
Milpitas Adult Ed expanding programming, enrollment for the 2022-23 school year
Milpitas Adult Education Principal Giuliana Brahim covered the full gamut of programs offered to our community members as part of the MAE programming in her Principal's Report at the August 23 meeting.
