Student Nutrition Services Team provides update on operations, budget and menu items
Sandy Huynh, Director of Student Nutrition Services & Warehouse; Fatemeh Tabib, Operation Supervisor of Student Nutrition Services; and Sucheta Gehani, Operation Supervisor of Student Nutrition Services shared a Student Nutrition Services Update at the Jan. 25 meeting.

The SNS team touched on operations, budget, and menu enhancements, which included input from students on food selections as well as a priority on offering a more culturally diverse menu and one that allowed for more vegetarian options.

Additionally, SNS shared that California will become the first state to implement a statewide Universal Meals Program for all school children.
  
RECOGNITIONS
Post-Secondary students, staff recognized for operating Happy Cafe business venture
MUSD Post-Secondary Student Richard Gay and Post-Secondary Teacher David Sorensen were in attendance to receive their Certificates of Recognition from the Board of Education and District Leadership for creating, organizing and operating the Happy Cafe in the Milpitas Adult Education building. Also recognized for their contributions to the business venture were: Ruby DeLeon, Francesca Berardi and Rujul Bandikalla.
Jack Emery Food Drive student leaders honored for efforts to support needy families
Milpitas High School student leaders Kush Brahmbhatt, Victoria Ly, Pauline Nguyen, and Anna Ho were honored by the MUSD Board of Education and District leadership for spearheading this year's Jack Emery Food Drive, a community-wide effort that helps feed thousands of needy families through the Milpitas Food Pantry.
MUSD Trustees recognized for dedication as part of School Boards Recognition Month
The MUSD Board of Education, comprised of 2022 President Kelly Yip-Chuan, Vice President Chris Norwood, Clerk Minh Ngo, Trustee Hon Lien and Trustee Michael Tsai, were given a special recognition as part of School Boards Recognition Month for their dedication to the district's students, staff and families. Later in the meeting, the Board expressed sentiments for Happy Lunar New Year, which is February 1.

HIGHLIGHTS
Milpitas Middle College High School featured in latest MUSD Navigators! video series
MUSD's newest school, the Milpitas Middle College High School, was featured in the latest MUSD Navigators! video series at the January 25 Board of Education Meeting with different student testimonials on what makes the program unique and beneficial to a variety of learners. Applications for the 2022-23 school year begin January 31.
Board unanimously ratifies agreement, MOU between MUSD, Milpitas Teachers Association
The Board of Education unanimously approved a Tentative Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding between MUSD and the Milpitas Teachers Association as well as certified the disclosure of the MTA collective bargaining agreement in two separate votes at the Jan. 25 meeting.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement encompasses a new three-year term for the 2021-2022 through 2023-2024 school years, while the certification demonstrates that the costs incurred by MUSD under this agreement can be met by the District for the fiscal year from 2021-2022 to 2023-2024.
Weller Elementary School students honor Fred Korematsu with video resolution reading
Weller Elementary School students shared a video reading of Resolution 2022.25 Recognizing and Honoring January 30 as Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution at the Jan. 25 meeting of the MUSD Board of Education, which unanimously adopted it.
Annual SARC report offers insights into student data assessments in ELA, Math
Director of Secondary Education Maurissa Koide provided a detailed School Accountability Report Card (SARC) Update to the Board and community, highlighting student data assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics at various grade levels and within student groups.

Per state law, schools that receive state funding must prepare and distribute a SARC to provide parents and the community with important information about each school. The SARC is updated annually and published on February 1 to schoool and district websites. Hard copies are available at school sites.
Superintendent provides statistics in Moving Forward Together: MUSD COVID-19 Update
Superintendent Cheryl Jordan shared her Moving Forward Together: MUSD COVID-19 Update 2021-22 with the Board and community at the Jan. 25 meeting, touching on the impact of the COVID Omicron variants on local schools, students and staff members, along with vaccination and infection rates.

of education items at January 25 meeting
The Board of Education approved the following education items at the January 25, 2022 board meeting:

  • TBWB and EMC Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) for parcel tax preparation
  • Enact AB361 to allow for virtual board meetings due to state of emergency declaration
  • Quarterly Report - Williams Settlement Compliance
