Virtual District Celebration Ceremony
|
|
MUSD’s biannual District Celebration honored 265 students and staff in the areas of academics, athletics, career technical education, and citizenship on the regional and state level, virtually. In our district, these areas exemplify our Targets: Grade Level Standards, Safety and Emerging students.
“This event allows us, the MUSD Board of Trustees, to formally acknowledge the efforts of our staff, the excellence of our students, and to thank the community at large for staying connected in the best interest of students— even during these hard times,” stated Board President Bob Wallace as he opened the virtual ceremony.
In academics, 92 were honored for earning the highest score on an Advanced Placement Exam through College Board. While the average score is a “3”, our student honorees earned a “5” which is the highest possible score and is earned by less than 10% of those who take the test.
The emerging student target represents students emerging into their career pathways while in high school. In this category, over 140 students and staff were honored for their career technical education pursuits in FFA, FCCLA, and JROTC.
Many students were honored for their athletic achievements— these athletic scholars excel both in the classroom and on the field. MUSD honored 8 teams who earned division section championship by CIF, 4 Most Valuable Players, 2 wrestling state qualifiers, 3 model coaches of the year, and 1 athletic director of the year.
Also honored were MUSD’s employees and educators of the year. In 2020, MUSD named three non-teaching professionals and five teaching professionals as Employees of the Year who have directly impacted student success and safety.
In closing, Board Vice President Eric Duncan stated, “The Board of Trustees is immensely proud of what our outstanding students and staff have accomplished this year. During a time of hardship and uncertainty, Manteca Unified students have continued to show up, both virtually and in-person, and worked their way toward a better future.”
The event was hosted entirely by our Board of Trustees and student board members and debuted live on our @proudtobemusd Facebook page.

MUSD Bids Farewell to Two Board Trustees
|
|
November 17, 2020 was the final Board meeting for two of our beloved trustees whose terms expire next month.
Board President Bob Wallace (Area 7) Nov 2016 –Dec 2020
Board Trustee Karen Pearsall (Area 3) April 2019 – Dec 2020
"Today, we want to thank you President Bob Wallace and Trustee Pearsall for serving the students of this District on behalf of the community. President Wallace began his service in November of 2016 and Trustee Pearsall joined the Board in April of 2019. Mr. Wallace has been a supporter of our athletic programming, facilities modernizations, and enrichment programming for students. Trustee Pearsall has always been a strong advocate of community transparency and community voice. Together, they have made an incredible contribution to this District and all those whom we serve.
Board service is the toughest volunteer role, and you both took on your Board duties with dedication, grace, and seriousness. I am most gracious of your judicious stewardship of our organization. I know personally you have always carefully deliberated on matters before the Board." — Superintendent Dr. Clark Burke

August Knodt hosted their first Annual Turkey Trot! A virtual 5k race students could participate in both during and outside of school.
“Because we cannot gather in large groups, we wanted to give our students a feeling of camaraderie amongst grades and something to look forward to,” described August Knodt principal Jillian Friend.
The school’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support committee organized the first ever Turkey Trot including a donation drive from the school’s staff. The winning students received all ingredients to make a full Thanksgiving dinner including a turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, rolls, green beans, canned cranberry, and pumpkin pie— all donated from AK faculty.
The committee provided a mapped running course for participating students. Ms. Friend explained that some students used their structured play time while leadership students used some elective time to run the campus route. In the end, student participation was measured in timed logs turned into their teacher and the student with the fastest times won the turkey dinner.

Great Valley’s School Site Assistants Shine!
|
"Great Valley’s return to school for kindergarten through third grade students has been successful, safe and smooth. A huge part of this has been due to our hard-working and flexible SSAs! Our SSAs have stepped up and supported our students as they make their way on and off campus and have done a great job leading students during their Structured Play Activity time! They are true team players!" -Jacalyn Davis, Principal
