THIS WEEK IN HOUSTON

February 18–22, 2026

Houston stretches wide this week — film, photography, painting, performance, community.

From Bayou City blues at The DeLUXE Theater to exhibitions engaging photography, public memory, and the archive, the city feels layered and in motion. Here and There at UHD’s O’Kane Gallery (at the Willow Street Pump Station) pairs large-scale digital photographs by Valentine Ollawa with hand-printed black-and-white works by Tijani Lawal.

Meredith Pardue returns to Laura Rathe Fine Art with jewel-toned, expansive paintings that evoke both the materiality of stone and the fleeting quality of breath. Francis and Anthony Almendárez activate the archive at Aurora Picture Show, while MECA revisits the Bracero Program and its lasting imprint on American life and labor.

Music anchors the week as well with a Frida-inspired world premiere and the Branford Marsalis Quartet. Saturday is a standout for Kaima Marie Akarue, with her solo exhibition Under the Atlantic Veil and a one-night FLATS group show appearance later that evening.

Houston is gathering: across disciplines, across neighborhoods, across histories.

Scroll down and make your plan.
