THE MUSIC

For this first show of the season, Artistic Director Kim Tuttle has called upon friends and collaborators to create a true celebration!

Two of the works, WE THE PEOPLE and CONSTELLATIONS, feature the work of long - time friend and Distinguished UF Alumni and Gainesville native Stella Sung. I well remember the time Dr. Sung called me (yes, a rotating dial phone) to find out if a work she was creating “would work”. I told her I could see the dancers moving. Thus began a long partnership between Dr. Sung and DANB.

STELLA SUNG

AWAKE, is a work with music and dance created by principal dancer Tales Ribeiro; dealing with AI. With everyone talking about it, Tales just had to explore possibilities!

A TOM PETTY TRIBUTE features six well known works from Gainesville’s own Tom Petty: “Breakdown”, “Refuge”, “He

re Comes My Girl”, “Honey Bee”, “Wildflower”, and “The Best of Everything”. Rehearsals for this work had a number of our dancers singing along! Now we know why they are dancers!

1000 Voices of Florida and DANB have collaborated on several projects. We are more than delighted that this amazing group will join us in celebration with ROCK ON AMERICA!

About 1000 Voices

DANCE

Four pieces. Three choreographers. Glorious Dance. A Celebration!

WE THE PEOPLE,

originally titled One Day…Everything, is a work created by Judy Skinner; inspired after a visit to Ellis Island. The work is dedicated to those that came before us; including the ancestors of Dr. Sung, Judy Skinner, and Kim Tuttle and the many dancers who have gifted DANB with their artistry over the years.

CONSTELLATION is a collaboration between Dr. Sung and Kim Tuttle - with the dancers moving against the images from the Hubble telescope. The dance and the video showcases the vivid beauty of the galaxies.

AWAKE explores the boundary between human and artificial intelligence.

In this premier performance, choreographer Ribeiro challenges both audience and dancer. Below, a link to an early rehearsal!

AWAKE!

A TOM PETTY TRIBUTE lets the dancers explode across the stage.  You might even have to dance in the aisles!

In this piece we welcome back Allison Tucker and Jose Ramos, Artists In Residence, and Tenki Nomua, just back from Japan. Below, links from rehearsals!
