2021 has already been making history since the year started only a few short weeks ago. For starters,
Becky Hammon, San Antonio Spurs assistant coach, made history at the beginning of the month when she became the first female to coach an NBA game after the head coach got ejected from the game against the Lakers. COVID Cases have risen to their peaks since this virus hit the US over a year ago. The Capitol of the United States got attacked with violent protests leaving our country in more division than before. Then we were on the front line to witness history for our country with the transition to a new administration. It does not matter your political view, we all are in this together and the call for healing was given. With a peaceful transition of power, the United States was able to show the world that their democracy is still at work. All of this with only 3 weeks into the new year! All I can say is GOD IS GOOD!
You see, while the world around us is spinning out of control, making history, feeding us uncertainty, our God promises hope and peace during the chaos. I am reminded of Peter when he walked on water... as long as he kept his eyes on Jesus, he could keep walking on water. The moment he looked back, he started to fall into the water. Are we keeping our eyes focused on Jesus so we can sustain through the storms?
Then I am reminded of the Psalmist David, who is dubbed, the man after God's Own Heart. Yes, David was not perfect but his heart still longed for God and God protected him time and time again. David's Psalms are full of hope and encouragement for us today.
My prayer for each and every one of you today is that as we walk through the valley of the current times, may your eyes stayed focused on Jesus. Psalms 23:4 says, 'Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me." May you find comfort in him knowing he will not leave you nor forsake you.
