A message from the President

Happy May MVAR®!
To say this year has been off to a kick start, would be an understatement. If nothing else, it’s certainly felt like we are all running a marathon with fire under our feet. The market is still experiencing low inventory levels, which is hard for everyone. Whether you are representing a buyer, seller or you are a client in this market, we are all feeling a certain level of fatigue.

However, this letter is not to remind you of the state of our market, nor is it to emphasize the level of exhaustion you might be feeling. My goal is to remind you of the privilege we have of serving our clients and our community by being a REALTOR® voice. There is no greater honor than serving a client through one of the most important financial transactions of their lives; we get the honor of sitting at the table, counseling and advising people on the foundations of their homes, commercial businesses and financial future. How cool is that? It a one-of-a-kind career that really, when you think about it, is so incredibly humbling.

As we enter the month of May and the nearly halfway point in 2021, I want to take time to encourage you to first recharge; it is hard to take from an empty bucket. Secondly, consider focusing some of your time to serving our industry in an area you are passionate about. Whether that is a committee like Professional Development, Special Events or Government Affairs. We need you. We need your voice and we want your energy. You are a valued member of our association and your voice is needed at the table.

Looking ahead, I am incredibly proud of our association and the many pivots we have had to make in the past year and half. Our Board of Directors has been meeting and working tirelessly to review and discuss our 2021 retreats, ‘Wildly Important Goals’ to ensure that we are better serving you, so that you can better serve your clients and communities.

One of our main focuses this year is RPAC. For those of you who don’t know, our Government Affairs Committee (GAC) has been working diligently to review and preserve home ownership rights within our local communities. Over the coming year, we are excited to invite you to participate in some of the events, fundraising and developments shaping the future of our GAC & RPAC contributions. As REALTORS® we are the voice of Real Estate and our voice can shape and help create legislation and education around topics like Fair Housing, Zoning, New Construction, Commercial, etc.

As we continue to move through the year, MVAR® has some exciting opportunities coming your way and we want to encourage you to get involved, share your voice and help shape the future of our industry and our association.
At your service, Ashleigh Fordham

Surveys & Public Input Meetings

Marion County is currently developing a five-year plan for housing, community development, and infrastructure. The plan will guide investment policy and actions such as housing, economic development, public services, public facility, and infrastructure investments over the next several years.

The planning process is intended to more comprehensively fulfill three basic goals: to provide decent housing, to expand economic opportunities, and to provide a suitable living environment. The plan depends on the opinions and experiences of people who are knowledgeable about housing and community development in Marion County.

REALTOR® and AFFILIATE MEMBERS your input is essential to ensuring thorough representation of people living and working in Marion County and we invite you to participate in our online survey.

For more than 50 years, the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) has been one of the strongest and most successful advocacy organizations in the nation. And there’s one reason for that: REALTORS® like you. RPAC recognizes that an industry that shies away from politics is an industry whose future is unstable and uncertain.

Your voluntary investments in RPAC earn us a seat at the table with legislative and policy decision makers on Capitol Hill, statehouses, and city halls across the country. Your continued support and engagement allow us to shape the size, scope, and success of real estate industry for REALTORS® and business, property, and home owners alike.

Together, we’re protecting the future of real estate in America.
