Call for Proceedings Papers

Deadline Extended to 5/8

A contribution to the Proceedings is expected from every speaker or poster presenter at the annual meeting of the MVCAC. A full paper is encouraged; however, presenters may submit an “extended abstract”. Because the Proceedings is not ‘peer reviewed’, publication will not preclude submission of a full manuscript elsewhere.

Bay Area Mosquito Season Starting Early – MVCAC Member Districts Are Ready

A new article from the San Francisco Chronicle is sounding the alarm: thanks to a mild winter, warm stretches in February and March, and a rainy spring, mosquito breeding is ramping up ahead of schedule across the Bay Area. This means heightened risk for West Nile virus — California’s primary mosquito-borne disease — which can cause mild flu-like symptoms in most people but lead to severe neurological issues or even death in rare cases.

Lyme Disease Awareness Month

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month, and tick season is now underway. With nearly 476,000 Americans treated for Lyme disease each year, protecting yourself and your loved ones from tick bites is more important than ever.

Simple prevention steps — like using EPA-registered repellents, wearing protective clothing, and checking for ticks after outdoor activities — can make a big difference.

For more information on tick bite prevention, Lyme disease, and other tickborne illnesses, visit the CDC’s comprehensive resource page.
