Urgent Federal Advocacy: Act Now to Protect California's Vector Control Efforts

As California's vector control professionals, we stand on the front lines against mosquito- and tick-borne diseases that threaten our communities—from West Nile virus surging in the Central Valley to emerging tick threats in our coastal and foothill regions. With federal funding and regulations directly impacting our work, two critical pieces of legislation demand your immediate action. The American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA) is leading the charge, and as MVCAC members, your voice can amplify our shared priorities. Take just a few minutes today to contact your congressional representatives using the easy tools below.

WNV & Dead Bird Call Center Closing for the Season on October 10

On Friday, October 10, the California WNV & Dead Bird Call Center will transition to internet-only reporting. This marks the end of the WNV dead bird testing season in California for 2025. Dead birds reports will still be accepted online through the fall and winter at: https://westnile.ca.gov. CDPH staff will review each internet report and follow up as necessary.

If your agency has questions or would like to continue dead bird testing through the winter, please email: Marie.Cerda@cdph.ca.gov

Thank you for your participation this season!

VectorSurv Wants Your Feedback!

Our goal is to create software that provides you with useful tools and a positive user experience. The best way to do that is to check in with you and see how we are doing. To do this, we have created a two-part survey covering the following topics:

New Interface

This year we officially released a new version of the arthropod collections and pools interface. We want to hear how we did.

Mobile Development

In recent years we have had requests to make VectorSurv functionality available on mobile devices. We are interested in learning more about what you would like to see in a VectorSurv mobile application.

Your input is important to us. If you can, please complete the survey. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to send them to help@vectorsurv.org.
