In This Issue

In order to facilitate a close relationship between member districts and their legislators, all districts are encouraged to arrange visits to their local legislator's home offices during the designated week.   Many member districts are only able to connect with legislators during our annual advocacy event, and a local office visit may afford districts more time to better familiarize legislators and staff with vector control issues. There are currently no particular advocacy points for these meetings, but this may be a good opportunity to give a more comprehensive overview of mosquito and vector control operations, particularly touching on the safe and effective use of public health insecticides.
In order to help track these visits a spreadsheet has been placed on the members-section of the MVCAC website ( Advocacy and Legislation---Legislator Meeting Records).  Please record your scheduled visits and any follow-up information in this section to assist in our ongoing outreach and advocacy efforts.

CDPH Culex kdr resistance testing program for 2019 - district interest?

To: Local Vector Control Agencies
As you may recall, in 2014 CDPH-VBDS initiated a program to test   Culex pipiens  and   Culex quinquefasciatus mosquitoes for   kdr-mediated pyrethroid resistance. The purpose of the program was to provide resistance profiles of local mosquito populations to help vector control agencies make informed decisions with regard to adulticide selection when needed.  In December 2016, the   Culex kdr  program was discontinued due to the decreasing number of submitted samples.
VBDS was recently approached by local vector control agencies inquiring about the potential for reinstating the   Culex kdr testing program. Testing would be fee-based at $10 per mosquito.
Please contact me if your agency would be interested in participating in such a program. My contact information is below. Thank you!
