Emergency Preparedness Commission Vacancies - Apply Today!
The Mill Valley City Council is seeking to fill two unscheduled vacancies on the Emergency Preparedness Commission (EPC).

The EPC assists the City in preparing for, responding to, recovering from, and mitigating a disaster. The Commission’s duties include: identifying and organizing community groups, including residential neighborhood associations, schools, and businesses, promoting community emergency response training, educating residents on ways to be self-sufficient in a disaster, and providing recommendations to the City Council on preparedness matters.

The City is committed to promoting an equitable and inclusive environment that is welcoming to all who participate in municipal government. We seek diverse representation on all our Boards, Commissions, and Committees, and applicants from all backgrounds and life experiences are encouraged to apply.

New! Virtual Author Series
The Library is featuring streaming author talks including best-sellers, award-winners, fiction and non-fiction. Upcoming speakers include productivity expert David Allen, Pulitzer Prize winner Dr. Marcia Chatelain, and Long Bright River author Liz Moore. Author Series Book Club: Long Bright River by Liz Moore
Connect with your community and library staff as we read and discuss selected titles from the Virtual Author series. We will be discussing Long Bright River by Liz Moore on Wednesday, July 27th at 1pm. Register for the in-person book club here.

Draft Housing Element Available for Review
The Mill Valley Housing Element Update will serve as the City’s housing plan for the next 8 years (2023-2031). Your input is important to help assess the community’s housing needs, identify housing strategies to meet the City’s housing goals, and develop policy and resource priorities.

This is the first public review draft available for public comment through the end of the day Saturday, July 30, 2022. When reviewing the document, please consider what Mill Valley’s housing needs are (Chapter 2), the City’s resources (Chapter 3) and whether the housing programs (Chapter 4) are sufficient to meet the City’s housing needs. Use the online survey form to submit your comments and feedback on the Draft Housing Element.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion News
The City of Mill Valley commits to act and encourage community action towards eliminating racial disparities, both inside government and in the community. The City Council has identified Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives as their top priority, and staff provides updates to the City Council and community on activities in Mill Valley and around Marin County on a regular basis. Arts & Recreation News
Plaza Expansion & the Engine No. 9 - The Friends of No. 9 and the Mill Valley Historical Society and invite you to an event: Saturday, July 23, 11am - 1pm at the Depot Plaza. This event will show a proposed design concept for expanding the plaza and displaying Engine No.9 -- the only remaining piece of the once-famous Mt. Tamalpais & Muir Woods Railway. It is an opportunity to learn about the project, ask questions and learn a little history along the way.  The event will include displays and details about the design as well as historical photos and artifacts. We will also have some fun things for kids to see and do.

Call for Artwork - The Mill Valley Arts Commission is now accepting 2D artwork from artists in the greater Bay Area to be considered for a showing in a NEW exhibition space which was created (and specifically allocated) to promote and highlight artists and/or artwork that represents Diversity and/or Equity, and/or Inclusion (DEI).

Knitting Us Together - There's still time to submit your knitted pieces for this year's Knitting Us Together project. This public art "urban knitting" project installation is planned for late August through October. All are welcome to participate. Find out how!

Celebrate National Night Out with MVPD on Tuesday 8/2/2022!

The Mill Valley Police Department is inviting you to join us on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2022, for National Night Out at Depot Plaza in downtown Mill Valley. The event will take place from 5-7 PM.

National Night Out was initially created as an opportunity for law enforcement to connect with the community they serve. Mill Valley has expanded this concept, crafting it as an opportunity for local government and community-oriented organizations to make connections within our city. This is an event for you to interact with fellow community members, other City departments, and organizations. There will be food, games, prizes, and conversation. Climate Action Plan
The City’s Climate Action Plan is used to identify actions that the community and local government can take to reduce emissions based on emission reduction targets set for the community and the city’s government operations. Southern Marin Fire Department/Mill Valley Fire Department

Grant Funding for Hwy 1 Vegetation Management for Healthy Forests and Safe Community Evacuation - With support from California Assemblymember Marc Levine, the Southern Marin Fire Protection District, in partnership with the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority, was notified of a successful direct benefit budget allocation for FY 2022/2023. The 1 million-dollar project focuses on the critical need for evacuation route clearing on California State Route 1 from Northern Ave. to Panoramic Highway.  

New 988 Behavioral Health Crisis Number Launches July 16, 2022
A new phone number for behavioral health crisis needs will soon launch nationwide. Instead of dialing 911, people should call 988 to report when someone is in danger of self-harm or suicide. Marin County agencies are raising local awareness of the new option and explaining when to use it. Learn more about the new phone number.
