City Council Transition
After Over 15 Years of Service, Mayor John McCauley Retires from Council, Mayor Jim Wickham Elected

At their June 21, 2022 meeting, the Mill Valley City Council conducted their annual mayoral transition and unanimously elected Jim Wickham as Mayor and Urban Carmel as Vice Mayor. Councilmembers and City staff also shared their thanks and appreciation for outgoing Mayor John McCauley for his two terms of service on the Planning Commission and two terms on the City Council, serving as Mayor in 2016 and 2021. Fire Season Updates

Hosting Visitors This Summer? Help Them Be Prepared! - The Emergency Preparedness Commission has developed an informational packet for visitors to Southern Marin. It includes tips on signing up for alerts, how to find local evacuation routes and Community Refuge Areas, what to do on "Red Flag Days," a reminder that fireworks are illegal, and more! Please take a moment to download the Good Neighbor Guide and learn more about this initiative.

Housing Element Update
City Planners anticipate the release of the Draft Housing Element by the end of June with a 30-day comment period. After the public comment period, the Draft will be sent to the State’s Dept of Housing and Community Development (HCD) for their review. Planners anticipate more than one round of comments from the State, and community members will have additional opportunities to submit comments with subsequent Drafts released after HCD’s initial review. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion News
The City of Mill Valley commits to act and encourage community action towards eliminating racial disparities, both inside government and in the community. The City Council has identified Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives as their top priority, and staff provides updates to the City Council and community on activities in Mill Valley and around Marin County on a regular basis. Movies in the Park Return this Friday - Our FREE Movies in the Park series is back! The first movie on deck is Brave (2012), showing this Friday, June 24th at Old Mill Park. Bring blankets or lawn chairs and some snacks for some fun-filled movie magic under the stars. Movie begins at sunset. Check out our movie lineup through October!

Campout With Your Community! - Registration ends July 4th for Mill Valley's Annual Community Campout. Join us Saturday, July 30th and celebrate National Parks & Recreation Month by camping out with neighbors and friends at the Mill Valley Community Center! Spaces are limited, register today!
NEW Rotating Art in the Depot Plaza - The Mill Valley Arts Commission is launching a new exhibit displayed on the exterior wall of the Depot building. The exhibit features artist Kandi Cota. Come see the artwork & meet the artist, from 5:30-7:30pm, during the July 5th First Tuesday ArtWalk.

Get Your Knitting On! - We've received some amazing submissions for this year's Knitting Us Together project and it's not too late to submit your own knitted pieces! This public art "urban knitting" project installation is planned for late August through October. All are welcome to participate. Find out how!

Save the Date for Concerts in the Plaza - The Mill Valley Arts Commission's annual Concerts in the Plaza series is slated for September 10th and 11th, from 11am-7pm, in the Depot Plaza. Check out this year's awesome lineup of musicians!
MVPD News

MVPD Supports the Northern California Special Olympics - Yesterday, June 22, Mill Valley Police participated in the Special Olympics Torch Run across the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco. Thanks to all the other law enforcement agencies and volunteers that participated in this great event!

Parking Meters Fees Going Up-Time to Get ½ Off Residential Shopper Vehicle Permit (RSVP) - Parking meter rates are going up, which makes this is a perfect opportunity to take advantage of purchasing a Resident Shopper Vehicle Permit (RSVP). Beginning July 1, 2022, permits will be prorated to half price for the remainder of the permit period. Learn more about parking meter fees & RSVP.

Measure U Citizen Oversight Committee Vacancy–Date Extended - The committee ensures that the District is financially stable and able to continue offering firefighting, lifesaving response services and enhanced fire prevention efforts within the District. Interested in learning more or applying? Marin County Participatory Budgeting  - The County of Marin is making $2.5 million available for members of the public to decide how it is spent through a process called Participatory Budgeting. Interested? You can also visit the PB webpage to learn more about this exciting and innovative approach to equitable governance in Marin County. 

Opening on County Youth Commission - The application period is open through July 2 for applicants aged 12 to 23 for the Marin County Youth Commission. There are 23 representatives on the commission, which acts as the political voice for young people by engaging with the Marin County Board of Supervisors and other policymakers. Interested?
