Hello MVNA neighbors!

This month: September's public safety meeting recap, City Council Candidate Forums, Purcell improvement news, and more.

MVNA Board News

Here are the highlights of our September public safety meeting:

  • Bend Police Officers Wes Murphy and Chris Stokes attended, generously giving us over an hour of their time to discuss the Safeway shooting and other public safety concerns.
  • They encouraged folks to sign up for text alerts regarding public safety, here at Deschutes County Emergency Alerts: https://member.everbridge.net/892807736723736/login

(NOTE: alerts are based on the one address entered (work, home, other – whatever you choose) and are sent in a radius of addresses the County determines based on urgency.)

  • Officers Murphy and Stokes also encouraged residents to report ALL crime (package taken from porch, shovel stolen from truck, etc) even if suspect is long gone. These reports help the Ben PD track crime, hire additional officers if needed, and build cases against accused. Call non-emergency number: 541-693-6911
  • We also should report graffiti and illegal dump sites: https://sheriff.deschutes.org/community/crime-prevention/reporting-graffiti/

The October MVNA meeting is going on the road! Due to the candidate forum on the 24th, we will not meet that night. Instead, board members will host a meet and greet, Sunday, October 23 from 4-6 pm to connect with neighbors and answer questions about MVNA. Stay tuned for the location!

Purcell Action Group Updates

A big thank you to Jim Elliot with Bend Bikes and Robin Lewis, City of Bend traffic engineer, for meeting with our Purcell Action Group on Friday, September 31. This neighborhood group is working to bring safety improvements and traffic calming measures to the north end of Purcell, to coincide with the Purcell extension. Thanks to the advocacy by this group and Bend Bikes, the City of Bend is planning to add bike lanes and pedestrian crossings to this portion of Purcell. We will continue to support these efforts and monitor the progress of this project.

Speeding continues to top neighborhood concerns. Let's all do our part and Slow Down.
