| | Convening to Develop the Region’s Outdoor Economy; the Riverway Summit and the Miami Valley Cycling Summit | | |
In May, MVRPC was proud to sponsor two Summits that promote our Region’s Outdoor Economy; the Great Miami Riverway Summit and the Miami Valley Cycling Summit. Staff also supported both events through program planning, panel moderating and presenting updates on the agency’s most recent efforts and initiatives to support the Region.
On May 2, 2025, Miamisburg hosted the 17th annual Great Miami Riverway Summit. This was a monumental moment for the Riverway and all those who have supported the effort, as it was hosted in a brand new downtown Miamisburg Riverfront Park which was only a dream and vision over 10 years ago.
The following week, on May 9, 2025, Bike Miami Valley convened local leaders, community advocates and cyclists for the 8th bi-annual Miami Valley Cycling Summit in Springfield, Ohio. The focus on this year’s summit was “Cycling for All” and featured, the Bicycle Nomad, a nationally re-known cyclist and cycling advocate.
| | The Big Thanks (United Way) | | The Big Thanks is an annual event that provides the United Way of the Greater Dayton Area with an opportunity to recognize and celebrate their dedicated partners, collaborators, and supporters. These honorees share a common goal: to enhance the quality of life in the Miami Valley. In alignment with MVRPC’s own agency vision, the Institute for Livable & Equitable Communities has been heavily engaged with the United Way in pursuing efforts and initiatives benefiting the region and its community members. And we are proud to share that this has recently led to our Regional Equity Initiative Program Manager Fabrice Juin being recognized with the “Future of Philanthropy” award; “for his vision, energy, and unwavering commitment to equity in our community”. This award is also a reflection of both the collective work of the MVRPC staff team that help to facilitate collaborative opportunities, and the leadership and support of our Board members. | | MVRPC Convenes Local Experts on Youth Group Housing | | |
MVRPC hosted an informative workshop on the topic of Youth Group Housing on Tuesday, April 29th at the Montgomery County Business Solutions Center. This workshop was an opportunity to learn about, exchange insights on, and discuss approaches to the youth group housing issues faced by our communities in the region.
A total of 35 participants from various fields including planning, economic development, law enforcement, emergency responders, and group home operators were in attendance.
The workshop included an informative presentation by Ms. Kyrsten French from City of Dayton where she provided the definition and background information on the high concentration of youth group homes in Montgomery County and City of Dayton. Following the presentation, the panel made up of Ms. Emily Crow (City of Dayton), Ms. Shannon Meadows and Mr. Chad Adkins (Harrison Township), and Mr. Tyler Hauck (City of Trotwood) began to delve into sharing their experiences with youth group housing at their communities. Attendees came away with a better understanding of the issues with Youth Group Housing and the potential challenges and solutions for both their local community and within the region.
