| | | MVRPC Hosts Free GIS Training to our Members | | |
MVRPC hosted a successful “ArcGIS Online Basics” training session on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Wright State University’s GIS Lab. Intended for beginners who are new to ArcGIS Online, this training session covered hands-on learning modules on finding, managing and editing ArcGIS Online data as well as creating web maps and web mapping applications. It concluded with creating several versions of the popular ArcGIS Online StoryMaps application.
This session was MVRPC’s 15th training session since 2016. MVRPC staff served as instructors to over 15 participants during the training, providing detailed written tutorials and other materials that attendees could take back to continue to practice after the training was complete. The participants ranged from many member organizations including Greene, Montgomery and Preble Counties, Xenia and Miami Townships, City of Dayton, City of Sidney, and more.
MVRPC’s GIS staff provides 3 training sessions per year for our members using commonly used GIS programs such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online. | | Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Stakeholder Meeting | | |
MVRPC is developing a Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan to enhance safety and prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries in the Miami Valley.
In order to collect input and provide project updates, MVRPC is inviting elected officials, technical experts, and other interested parties within our MPO communities to participate in a stakeholder meeting to review the latest project information.
This stakeholder meeting will be held virtually on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 from 3:00 – 4:00 pm.
For more information visit our website https://www.mvrpc.org/events/safe-streets-all-virtual-stakeholder-meeting.
The SS4A program makes funding available for planning and implementation efforts. In order to be eligible for implementation dollars, jurisdictions must be covered by a compliant safety action plan. MVRPC’s Safety Action Plan will allow local jurisdictions to access future implementation funds. MVRPC’s Safety Action Plan is expected to be complete in early 2026.
To learn more about the SS4A Safety Action Plan, please visit: www.mvrpc.org/ss4a. If you have any questions, please contact Elizabeth Whitaker at 937.531.6541 or by email at ewhitaker@mvrpc.org.

| | MVRPC Staff Attend Skyhawk Summit at Fairborn High School | | |
MVRPC staff recently attended the annual Skyhawk Summit at Fairborn High School. The Skyhawk Summit is part of Fairborn High School’s “Unity Day” event, which strives to connect the school community and emphasize unity. Prior to the event, students completed a career-inventory survey provided by the Greene County Business Advisory Council. The survey is designed to give students a sense of their ideal career fields, if not previously familiar. The event was set up as a traditional career/college expo. MVRPC staff spoke with students about careers in planning, MVRPC tools and services, and provided students with materials related to regional initiatives.
The event was jam-packed with learning opportunities for students. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors were in attendance. Approximately 200-300 students rotated through about every 45 minutes.
MVRPC staff would like to thank Fairborn High School staff and the Skyhawk Summit Planning Committee for the opportunity to attend this event.
