Audit Report
Stephen Roatch, Certified Public Accountant President of Stephen Roatch Accountancy Corporation presented the independent audit report , auditing the district's financial statements and status from the 2017-18 fiscal year. He reported that there were no findings or audit adjustments to the report.

In honor of School Board Recognition Month the Mill Valley School Community extends sincere appreciation to the Board of Trustees. Trustees were honored for their countless volunteer hours on behalf of the Mill Valley School District staff, students and families.
Technology Plan Update
Jim Bowlby, Director of Technology, and Kate Sprague, Instructional Technology Coach, provided an update related to the District-wide Technology Plan and implementation . The technology department is on Year 5 of the technology strategic plan, and in this phase, they are looking at a variety of projects and initiatives, including, but not limited to:
  • incorporating devices and digital resources into curriculum and instruction to enhance teaching and learning
  • focusing on digital citizenship for students and revising district tech standards
  • assessing bandwidth and infrastructure
  • supporting teacher-driven STEAM and maker activities (robotics, coding, maker-spaces, engineering, etc.) and looking at how to support coding in particular
  • integrating parent-school communications tools for efficiency, effectiveness, and reflection
  • continuing transition from paper to digital forms/communications
  • ongoing education for staff and students about cyber-security, including malware threats and data privacy
  • 1:1 program analysis and adjustments

Other Points of Interest
  • State Budget: Governor Newsom released his proposed budget on January 10, 2019. Additional information related to the proposal will be provided at the February 7, 2019 Board Meeting.
  • Facilities Needs Assessment: The Mill Valley School District is putting together a 12-member sub-committee to provide guidance and direction related to the recent Facilities Needs Assessment. The first meeting will occur in February 2019 and the group will consist of staff, community members, trustees, union representatives, administrators, and the project architect.
  • Yellow School Bus Pilot Program: The Mill Valley School District received re-mapping information from Marin Transit and is currently evaluating the information. The district will bring information and a recommendation related to the Yellow School Bus Pilot Program to the February Board Meeting.
  • Sewerage Agency of Southern Marin (SASM) - Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD): The Mill Valley School District received an update from SASM on the report from the BAAQMD stating that emissions from the plant have been measured to be below levels where adverse health impacts are expected.
