You can stay connected with the Mill Valley School District as we begin to use ParentSquare, a new communications platform that includes newsletters, emergency notifications, PTA communications, classroom updates, photos, and more. If you are a current parent, you should have received an invitation to join from your school to activate your account. You can also access the platform from the ParentSquare website or by downloading the free Android or iOS app. We hope that every family joins us on this platform. You can receive information in a daily digest or immediately in email, or through app and/or text notifications, so it’s convenient for your preferences.

If you are not a current Mill Valley School District parent but wish to continue receiving district newsletters, please fill out our Google Form to be subscribed to ParentSquare communications .
In an effort to further tailor and improve our communications strategies and frequency, we want to hear from all Mill Valley School District stakeholders regarding your preferences. Please take this short survey to share your feedback !

CAASPP Scores Coming Soon
CAASPP logo
California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) scores will be mailed home to families in early September. If your child was in 3rd through 8th grade during the 2018-19 school year, they participated in the Smarter Balanced Assessments for English Language Arts/Literacy (ELA) and Mathematics in the spring. This assessment is part of the CAASPP program, aligned with Common Core State Standards. This assessment tool is just one way we measure academic progress, but these scores provide a snapshot of your child's knowledge and skills, which further guides our understanding of how they're performing.

When you review your child's test scores, you will see an overall score for the two subject areas, ELA and mathematics, as well as information about how your child performed in different skill areas associated with those two categories. Additionally, 5th and 8th grade students completed the CA Science Test. Score reports with those test results will be available and sent home in January 2020. We have resources regarding the assessment and scores available on our website , including a link to the CAASPP Test Score Guide . If you have any questions once you receive the scores, please contact your child's principal.

Green Ways to Get to School
Safe Routes to School Marin County
The Mill Valley School District is committed to preparing students to be wise stewards of our natural environment, and there are many "green" initiatives at our school sites. We want to encourage all district families to plan for environmentally-friendly ways to travel to school by participating in the Safe Routes to School program and Walk and Roll Wednesdays by walking, riding, rolling, or riding the yellow school bus.

Annual bus passes for morning, afternoon, or both routes are available for students at Edna Maguire Elementary School, Strawberry Point Elementary School, and Mill Valley Middle School at millvalleyschoolbus.com.

Safety Reminders
Keeping students and staff safe is of the utmost priority to us, and we appreciate you taking time to partner with us in these efforts. We encourage you to consider talking with your children about violence. We have provided a few reminders regarding gun safety as well.

Attendance Reminders
You can help keep attendance a priority in your child's education by:

  • Planning vacations during school breaks and summer months
  • Explaining the importance of being on time for school each day to your child(ren)
  • Making sure your child(ren) stays home only when they are sick
  • Scheduling appointments for your child(ren) before or after school hours.
