New State Funding Grant

Wendy Holmes, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, provided information regarding the Low-Performing Students Block Grant (LPSBG), a state education funding initiative with the goal of providing grant funds to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) serving students identified as low-performing on state English Language Arts or Mathematics assessments. These students are not otherwise eligible for supplemental grant funding under the Local Control Funding Formula or eligible for special education services, as specified in Education Code (EC) Section 41570(d) .

Funds allocated will be used to implement professional development and purchase instructional materials to support performance of the targeted students. Additional information about the plan will be addressed at the March 14, 2019 board meeting.
Mill Valley School District (MVSD) Planning
Interim Superintendent Raquel Rose presented background information on the planning process for the 2019-20 school year. Due to the decline in enrollment over time, the district is proportionally
re-aligning staffing with projected student enrollment for the 2019-20 school year. In 2013, MVSD had an enrollment peak of 3,260, and has seen a decline of approximately 300 students since that time.

Due to this decline, it is important that MVSD calibrates staffing ratios so that the district may continue to offer a high-quality, well-rounded education. Recognizing that class sizes have varied over the years, the district is being proactive in determining the staffing needs based on projected student enrollment and consistent class sizes. The planning process and alignment will be reviewed for all staff, including Certificated, Classified, and Administrators.

We value our talented, hard-working, and passionate staff members, and have been working through this process collaboratively and thoughtfully. We will continue to remain focused on our mission and vision while recognizing our strategic plan objectives of balanced learners, supported staff, communications, and sound finance and infrastructure as we plan for the upcoming school year.

During this planning process, we will continue to provide updates through district-wide communications and future board meetings.
Board meeting dates and agendas can be found on the Mill Valley School District website.
