April 8, 2021 | Volume 4
Dear MWF Colleagues:
Finally, it’s Spring!! The season for new beginnings, for new possibilities. It’s been a long wait, hasn’t it? But just as we know to till the soil before we plant seeds for new growth, we find ourselves needing to collectively till our souls for more understanding, more responsibility for the future we are creating.

What better time for us to be in dialogue with one another. There’s no shortage of topics and issues for us to take on, and thanks to our esteemed membership, no shortage of perspectives that can both enlighten and exercise our thinking.

On April 15th we will hear from MWF Member, Juliette Kayyem, about US National Security in the current political climate. Register here to join us for this important discussion.
As I announced last month, we will soon introduce MWF’s Courageous Conversations Series. Imagine small-group, confidential conversations on relevant topics that are somewhere on the continuum between ‘tough’ and ‘taboo’. We are planning a briefing session that will give us guidance about how to best engage with each other in these often difficult conversations. If any group of individuals can model open minds for common ground that can be a path forward, it is you, it is us. Be on the lookout for more information.
Additionally, plans are underway for a Boston Mayoral Candidates Forum tentatively set for June 9th, and our annual Women Opening Doors for Women event, scheduled for June 22nd. I hope you will consider being a mentor this year. More details to follow in the weeks ahead on both of these programs.
Scan the calendar below, hold dates, register and join us at an upcoming event. And if you have any “pop up” event ideas, let us know! Can’t wait to get together in 3D and bigger than two-inch squares!!

With warmest regards,
Judy A Habib

What's Going On? National Security in the U.S. with Juliette Kayyem - April 15th
Juliette Kayyem
Join us on April 15th at noon for a virtual conversation with MWF member, Juliette Kayyem, former Assistant Secretary for Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and a leading voice on America’s homeland security efforts.

The topic of national security has never been more important. Whether it is emboldened extremist group activities and the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol or the recent horror of domestic terrorism in Atlanta and Boulder, we have all been watching the news with sorrow, frustration, and anger. Juliette has been a key voice in many of these broadcast discussions, both locally and nationally. Her analysis of the future terrorism threat in The Atlantic in January 2021 proved prescient.

Harvard Professor Kayyem will present her thoughts on domestic terrorism in the U.S., its threat to our nation’s democracy and national safety, and its origins in the country’s political atmosphere. After her remarks, we will open up the discussion for Q&A from MWF members.
