Speaker Presentations now available
Thank you to everyone who came to the Mid Wales Tourism & Hospitality Conference on November 9th.
It was a great day. For anyone who was unable to make it, you can read the full press release here, and catch up with the presentations from our speakers.
Thank you to our sponsor, pan-Wales apprenticeship provider Cambrian Training Company; the support from Visit Wales; our fabulous exhibitors, and our hosts at The Metropole Hotel & Spa.
The Mid Wales tourism industry has been urged to grasp the air of staycation positivity that is engulfing the region to make it one of the UK’s most desirable leisure destinations.

Thinking about recruiting an apprentice - ACT NOW!
Guest Blog from Arwyn Watkins OBE, Cambrian Training
"Thank you for the positive feedback to my speech at the Mid Wales Tourism and Hospitality Conference at the Metropole Hotel and Spa, Llandrindod Wells on November 9."
"Your responses have underlined how urgently the compulsory education system in Wales must change. It’s quite simply unsustainable to keep sending the most talented young people in Wales off to universities across the UK without reference to the skills needed by employers now and in the future to underpin our economy."
Why should cyber security matter to an SME in the tourism and hospitality industry?
Unfortunately the tourism and hospitality industry are becoming increasingly prone to cyber-attacks and breach of customers’ personal data is happening more frequently, says The Cyber Resilience Centre for Wales.
This guest blog asks what you have in place to protect your digital data, and explains how to get support.
Impala - a new way to connect your business with OTAs
If your business is looking to reach new markets, you may be interested in Impala; a new way to generate bookings for your property. There are no long term contracts, and you only pay commission on successful bookings.
We spoke to Roman Solyanyk at Impala (who some of you may remember from Expedia). “Before now, businesses have had two options to sell their rooms. Indirect supply offers the volume of bookings, but you don’t know who’s selling or where you’re being sold. On the other hand, direct contracting gives you more control but requires a lot of effort to get set-up.

Impala is rebuilding travels infrastructure, providing direct connections between properties and room sellers. No intermediaries and middleware, just a simple approach to help you sell more rooms.”
Welcome to MWT members
Welcome to new owners, Gareth & Melanie. This 17th Century property is located in the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains, south of Aberystwyth, near the coast,
7 en-suite rooms in Berriew, near Welshpool. Each room is decorated around a different theme running through Andrew Logan’s art: the elements ‘Earth’, ‘Water’, ‘Fire’ and ‘Air’, together with ‘Sun’ and ‘Void’, plus an especially royal ‘Regal’.
Take a dip in the wood-fired hot tub, admire the stars from Norwegian Wood's skylight or the sunset from Hafod's bay window. Andy & Katherine have created this perfect retreat near Rhayader.
