February 2022
MWT Members' Meeting, Tues 8 Feb
Join us for our first members' meeting of the year on Tuesday 8 February at 11am, online via Zoom.

Catch-up with Val, Zoe and the MWT team and your fellow members, plus we'll be joined by David & Donna from Cambrian Training Company.

It's a great opportunity to chat about what support you and your business may need in terms of skills and training in 2022, plus the issues of staff recruitment and retention that affect so many in the industry.

We hope to see you there.
Spotlight Feature: Dwr-y-Felin in Carno, stars of reality show, 'The Cabins'
Dwr-y-Felin are members of MWT, and we were thrilled when ITV2 producers chose them to feature in The Cabins on ITV2: The Cabins - Series 2 - Episode 1 - ITV Hub

Read our Q&A with owner, Sarah Humphreys.

Q. Some members might recognise your cabins from the popular reality TV series, The Cabins. Can you tell us how it all came about?

A. "I was contacted back in 2020 via an email asking whether I would be interested in the first season of The Cabins dating show, but declined. In March 2021 the same person contacted me again, when this time we decided why not! After a couple of zoom calls showing what the log cabins looked like, the production company decided they would love to use our log cabins and the surrounding area, as we have a lake, nature walks and are surrounded by beautiful trees. They were also determined to have a location in Wales for the second series of the show."

Read the full spotlight feature here, including more about Dwr-y-Felin, what it was like being part of the TV series, and an answer to the all important question, 'have you seen an uplift in guest bookings / enquiries since The Cabins aired?'...
Val Hawkins, chief executive of MWT Cymru, said “It was great to welcome The Cabins to our beautiful region and we hope that the locations where the series was filmed will help to promote mid Wales as a destination and encourage more visitors during 2022.

We were very pleased to be able to help producers find filming locations and activities for couples during their visit," (Kerry Vale Vineyard being one!).

Wales back to Alert Level Zero
Wales moved fully into alert level 0 on 28 January

The move completed the Welsh Government’s phased lifting of the alert level 2 protections, which were put in place on Boxing Day.

Some protections will remain in place at alert level 0, including mandatory face coverings in most indoor public places, including on public transport.

See our coronavirus advice page, including requirements at alert level 0.
The Statutory Sick Pay Rebate Scheme (SSPRS) has been temporarily reintroduced to support employers facing heightened levels of sickness absence due to COVID-19.

If you’re a small or medium-sized employer with under 250 employees, you may be eligible to claim Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) costs for up to two weeks per employee for COVID-19 related absences from 21 December 2021.

Latest Mid Wales News & Press Releases
As a result of our Press and PR activity, it was great to see Plas Talgarth and CAT featured in the Telegraph’s ‘20 half-term breaks with appeal for grandparents and grandchildren’ last weekend (No: 10 Learn about the planet together – copy below).

"When it comes to eco-thinking, children often teach grown-ups. So likely everyone will learn something at the Centre for Alternative Technology. Half term sees half-price entry, free morning tours, afternoon activities and CAT experts helping families discuss what they love about the planet. Plas Talgarth Hotel, near Aberdyfi’s sandy beaches, is a great base – book an apartment and enjoy the on-site fun, from an indoor pool and pitch-and-putt to snooker and darts.

How to do it: Winter tickets from £4.25 adult; £3.75 senior; £1.75 child (01654 705950; cat.org.uk). Apartment (sleeps four) from £270 for three nights (0344 879 9102; macdonaldhotels.co.uk)."

And congratulations to Margot Porter at Straw Cottage near Llandrindod Wells, for being named in The Guardian's article; Splendid isolation: 15 of the best off-grid stays in the UK
