Tributes paid to champion of the Wales tourism industry
A personal message from Val Hawkins, MWT Cymru Chief Executive:
It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that Julian Burrell, OBE, died at the weekend.

Julian was a leading tourism figure in Wales and I had the pleasure of working closely with Julian for many years.
He will be well known to many of our long standing members as the senior partner in Wales Holidays, a Newtown-based letting agency until his retirement in 2013.

He was a great champion of our industry in Mid Wales, and over the years our tourism sector has benefited greatly from Julian’s wisdom and passion for more than 40 years.

Julian started Wales Holidays in Mid Wales in 1978 and was well known as Chairman of Wales Tourism Alliance until his retirement. He was awarded an OBE in 2006, in recognition of his contribution to tourism and a Life member of Mid Wales Tourism. We will miss him greatly.
